I remember Randy from Regis HS. If you search for the definition of upbeat and positive ... you will definitely find his picture. Although a young teach when we had him at Regis, he was on top of his game. A great man! I'm sorry for the family's loss.

I offer my condolences to the entire family. Randy was a wonderful human being who impacted many lives. I knew him through Washington High School where he helped to start the Fellowship of Christian Athletes huddle there and served faithfully for many years. He was a generous man who loved God and loved people.. He will be greatly missed.

Randy was a wonderful Teacher and Mentor, very sorry to hear of his passing.

The best of Randy was his generosity and sense of humor. He was a great colleague who rolled with the best and worst of times at WHS. He was always someone we would look forward to talking to, even if it was just trivial small talk. He made WHS a better place to be - as a teacher, colleague, friend and host to those much loved - and needed - year-end get togethers. He will be missed, but remembered fondly. Our deepest sympathies to your family.

Thanks Randy for being such a good, Christlike person. Philippians 2:1-12. Peace and Love to the Ray Family. It was a beautiful service.

I've literally have heard Coach Ray's coach on a weekly basis. Wrestling has literally helped me my whole life. He started coaching me in 7th grade. I know now what he put up with dealing with us. Because I've had the chance to use the same lessons with my kids and grandkids. All my boys wrestle. I just want to say I'm sorry the world has lost another super hero. And Thank You for teaching me how to deal with life head on.

My earliest memories of Randy Ray are centered on the mat, of a young, talented wrestler. One of a dynasty of brothers, all gifted wrestlers, each helping and teaching the rest to strive and succeed. Randy always had a fantastic outlook and will to his best. While I am saddened to hear he has gone on ahead, I am not surprised to learn of the list of accomplishments he was able to fulfill, teacher and coach will remain at the top. His students and athletes all benefitted from his dedication and willingness to give of 'himself' . I remember well when he was dating a young girl from my neighborhood, the same girl he later married and gave him their children. A truly good soul has passed, my deepest condolences to the many friends and family members of Randy Ray. With greatest respect, Larry Daniels

Am shocked to hear his passing. Am impressed to read his life accomplishments. Over 50 years ago we wrestled together at Marshalltown High School under Coach Gene Luttrell and shared cutting the weight, cauliflower ears and both gut wrenching losses at the State Tournament. I lost my only son under the same unexpected circumstances. I pray Randy and Brandon find each other in heaven. They will laugh a lot together!

I have many fond memories of Randy and the Ray family (Hap) from years ago. They were instrumental in my early passion for baseball. Randy was a fantastic teammate and even better person. I feel fortunate for having known Randy and considered him a friend. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time. God bless.

My memory of Randy whizzing my kids up the hill behind his house in his side-by-side and having a ball just watching them have a ball is Randy in a nutshell. Randy, you will be carried by me as a man, a teacher, a coach and I hope my impact will be a fraction of the impact you have had. You are missed my friend!

It is with great sadness that we send our sympathy for Randy's passing. Randy wrestled for me in my first year at Marshalltown High School. And, we were proud to see him go on as a wrestling coach. We always looked forward to competing against his teams at the Cedar Rapids Washington Tournament. Rest in Peace, Coach Ray ♥

We at Five Seasons Senior Living are saddened by Randy's passing. He was so involved with us. He leaves a big hole in our hearts.. I loved his smile and kindness..

I first met Randy Ray as a young 5th grade kid just taking up the sport of wrestling. He help other coaches and volunteers with the Marshalltown Wrestling Club. Someone I never forgot. I've seen Doug a few times over the almost 50 years but I don't remember seeing Randy ever again. Just want his entire family to know, that a few weeks on a wrestling mat with a young kid can and did make a lasting impression. I've thought of you many times Randy Ray. Thank you for all you have done for the many kids you've touched. RIP, Jim Hunt

Wow, not enough words to describe you Mr.Ray, thank you for everything! Get your rest!

Randy was one of the most competitive people I knew. We played many of sports and activities together, playing on a State Champion Little League team and school teams as well. The Ray family is such a special family. I was hurt and shocked hearing of his passing as was many of his fellow classmates. Even though we all went our different directions after we graduated, we will never forget our friendship and experiences growing up together. Randy please get the balls and bats, and gloves ready for we will get to play again someday-- Tim (Deanna) and entire Bell Family

Our thoughts and prayers to the family. Randy was a very special man. He befriended my Dad, Richard Bice who is now 91 years old. They volunteered together in many different organizations. Randy was such a great friend to Dad. Randy had such a kind heart and he was so giving to others. He helped my Dad in countless ways. I’m sure he is hearing “ well done my good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:21

I knew Randy as “Coach Ray” from the days when he was the head wrestling coach at Washington High School and Dan Ray was an assistant coach. Being a part of the tight-knit Warrior wrestling team from 1988-1991 were my fondest high school memories. Coach Ray was always personally encouraging even when being necessarily corrective as a coach. His passion, determination, and work ethic were obvious in every practice and during every meet. I didn’t realize it at the time that Randy was coaching us in more than just wrestling.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Coach Ray's family. I first met Coach Ray my junior year in High School at Regis. I have great memories of wrestling for him for two years at Regis. Later I went on to coach with Randy at Washington High Schooi in both football and wrestling. Nothing but great respect for Randy.

I didn't know Randy personally, but my Dad lived in Five Seasons Senior Housing across the street from his home. Randy was incredibly generous to all of the Seniors living there. He would buy them Christmas gifts, and host parties and cookouts at his home. He didn't have to do it, and this shows what great character Randy had. My prayers and condolences are with the family.

I am so sorry to see the passing of Randy. I did not know him personally but was in school with Terry and Gary. My prayers and condolences are with all of you.

Randy has been a part of my family for over a decade, and has always been there since. He took every opportunity to share the goodness in the world. He cared so much for everyone. He showed more kindness than there is in this entire world. He cared about making a difference and seeing and BEING the good that is out there. My family will miss this kind man severely, and we send condolences to his. An amazing man through and through❤️

There are not enough adjectives to describe Randy and I have no good words to describe his impact on all who knew him. He reminds me of Matthew 25:21; “Well done good and faithful servant!” May you enjoy eternal peace and happiness my dear friend. You are and will be missed.

Randy was a great guy ! My mom really loved him. he used to host the picnic for the seniors every year at five season Apt. I am sure my Mom met him at heavens gate when he arrived ! prayers for Gods comfort for the family

Thoughts and Prayers to Mr Ray’s friends and family. Mr. Ray was an amazing teacher!

One of the very best human beings I have ever met. Always-Always wanting to help others. So selfless. A shame to see him go so soon. He talked about his boys and Helen all the time. I really enjoyed visiting with him recently and hearing all about his wonderful trip with Helen.
