I remember Randy from Regis HS. If you search for the definition of upbeat and positive ... you will definitely find his picture. Although a young teach when we had him at Regis, he was on top of his game. A great man! I'm sorry for the family's loss.

I offer my condolences to the entire family. Randy was a wonderful human being who impacted many lives. I knew him through Washington High School where he helped to start the Fellowship of Christian Athletes huddle there and served faithfully for many years. He was a generous man who loved God and loved people.. He will be greatly missed.

I've literally have heard Coach Ray's coach on a weekly basis. Wrestling has literally helped me my whole life. He started coaching me in 7th grade. I know now what he put up with dealing with us. Because I've had the chance to use the same lessons with my kids and grandkids. All my boys wrestle. I just want to say I'm sorry the world has lost another super hero. And Thank You for teaching me how to deal with life head on.

My earliest memories of Randy Ray are centered on the mat, of a young, talented wrestler. One of a dynasty of brothers, all gifted wrestlers, each helping and teaching the rest to strive and succeed. Randy always had a fantastic outlook and will to his best. While I am saddened to hear he has gone on ahead, I am not surprised to learn of the list of accomplishments he was able to fulfill, teacher and coach will remain at the top. His students and athletes all benefitted from his dedication and willingness to give of 'himself' . I remember well when he was dating a young girl from my neighborhood, the same girl he later married and gave him their children. Am shocked to hear his passing. Am impressed to read his life accomplishments. Over 50 years ago we wrestled together at Marshalltown High School under Coach Gene Luttrell and shared cutting the weight, cauliflower ears and both gut wrenching losses at the State Tournament. I lost my only son under the same unexpected circumstances. I pray Randy and Brandon find each other in heaven. They will laugh a lot together!

My memory of Randy whizzing my kids up the hill behind his house in his side-by-side and having a ball just watching them have a ball is Randy in a nutshell. I first met Randy Ray as a young 5th grade kid just taking up the sport of wrestling. He help other coaches and volunteers with the Marshalltown Wrestling Club. Someone I never forgot. I've seen Doug a few times over the almost 50 years but I don't remember seeing Randy ever again. Just want his entire family to know, that a few weeks on a wrestling mat with a young kid can and did make a lasting impression. I've thought of you many times Randy Ray. Randy was one of the most competitive people I knew. We played many of sports and activities together, playing on a State Champion Little League team and school teams as well. The Ray family is such a special family. I was hurt and shocked hearing of his passing as was many of his fellow classmates. Even though we all went our different directions after we graduated, we will never forget our friendship and experiences growing up together. Randy was a very special man. He befriended my Dad, Richard Bice who is now 91 years old. They volunteered together in many different organizations. Randy was such a great friend to Dad. Randy had such a kind heart and he was so giving to others. He helped my Dad in countless ways. I’m sure he is hearing “ well done my good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:21

I knew Randy as “Coach Ray” from the days when he was the head wrestling coach at Washington High School and Dan Ray was an assistant coach. Being a part of the tight-knit Warrior wrestling team from 1988-1991 were my fondest high school memories. Coach Ray was always personally encouraging even when being necessarily corrective as a coach. His passion, determination, and work ethic were obvious in every practice and during every meet. I didn’t realize it at the time that Randy was coaching us in more than just wrestling.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Coach Ray's family. I first met Coach Ray my junior year in High School at Regis. I have great memories of wrestling for him for two years at Regis. Later I went on to coach with Randy at Washington High Schooi in both football and wrestling. Nothing but great respect for Randy.

I didn't know Randy personally, but my Dad lived in Five Seasons Senior Housing across the street from his home. Randy was incredibly generous to all of the Seniors living there. He would buy them Christmas gifts, and host parties and cookouts at his home. He didn't have to do it, and this shows what great character Randy had. My prayers and condolences are with the family.

Randy has been a part of my family for over a decade, and has always been there since. He took every opportunity to share the goodness in the world. He cared so much for everyone. He showed more kindness than there is in this entire world. He cared about making a difference and seeing and BEING the good that is out there.
