Memorial
Susan Lee Gaskill, 79, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at UnityPoint St. Luke’s Hospital. A vigil service will be held on Friday, June 16, 2023, at 4:00 PM at the Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom. Those not attending the vigil may visit from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Jude Catholic Church on Saturday, June 17, 2023, beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow the service and take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Susan was born May 6, 1944, to Bernard and Claire (Taylor) Russell in Des Moines, Iowa. She graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in 1962. Susan married Wayne Gaskill on December 1, 1982. She retired from the U.S. Post Office in 1999. She was a devoted member of St. Jude Catholic Church and participated in many golf leagues.
She enjoyed playing card games, putting together puzzles, going to garage sales, feeding the hummingbirds, gardening, and playing golf, where she got a hole in one in Sun City, Arizona. Susan and Wayne enjoyed twenty years of snow-birding to Sun City. She volunteered her time at the church and attended many bible studies. She was known for her homemade noodles, cut out cookies, and being the best caregiver. Susan loved her family and friends and cherished the time spent with them.
Susan is survived by her loving husband Wayne Gaskill; children, David (Lana) Wheeler, Dane (Robin) Wheeler, Dave (Darla) Gaskill, Rick (Krystal) Gaskill, Debi (Dan) Churchman, and Keri (Trevor) Cook; grandchildren, Erika (Sam), Blake, Cody (Kamryn), Zach, Jonah, Melissa (Eric), Scott (Emily), Lori (Ross), Brian, Kevin (Bella), Drew, Alex, Katie (Jonathan), Libby (Kevin), Kaylee, Kianna, Trace, and Jada; great grandchildren, Elliot, Braylee, Jameson, Alyssa, Cameron, Abi, Maddie, Kate, Jacoby, Alex, Brooklyn (Ricardo), and Addy; great-great grandchild Liam; siblings, Lynne (Jim) Conlin, Tom Russell, Ron (Doris) Russell, Jane (Dennis) Sweaney, Jill (Gary) Caldwell, Jon (Vicki) Russell, Mark (Kelly) Russell, Joanne (Gary) Astor, and Rod Gaskill; along with many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Bernie and Claire, and her in-laws, Vincent and Josephine Gaskill.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
