Bill, your memorial piece captured Mike's essence -- so beautifully written. Thank you! And I love your story, Gretchen. Mike has such charisma, great energy, and heart. Thank God for the Mike Koehlers of this world; those rare and bold characters who make it a more fun and lovely place. Our loss, Heavens gain.

Grace and I were so very sad to hear about our old friend Mike. He was my best friend for many years in Denver. So many good times, so many concerts….and always with his amazing energy and smile. His sense of decency and his positivity stem from his amazing family and his great respect for all of you - Tom, Lorraine and Bill. We are devastated and can only imagine the pain you are all feeling. Please let us know if you anything further. We will bring our memories and a snapshot into Mike from his Denver years and share with you all. Love and strength to you all…John and Grace Dee

I was really saddened to hear of Mike's passing. My memories go back to the St. Matthew and Regis days and the crazy good times Mike shared with a lot of us. Mike was a special person and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Still to this day, one of my fondest memories is attending the Yes concert in CR, which many of you saw as well, with Mike and his little brother Steve who preceded him in death. I'll always have fond memories of Mike and the good times. Rest in Peace, brother.

We would like to send our condolences to the Koehler family. We were very saddened to hear of Mike's passing. Pat was good friends with Mike all the way through Grant Wood, St Mathews ( where they nicknamed him Special K), and Regis High School. They remained good friends when he went over to Washington High School also. Mike was a great guy and will be greatly missed.

Mike was always a person I could count on to hear a positive comment from. The last time our paths crossed we’re at Vernon Browns funeral we talked for a while and Mike used his amazing memory to tell great stories I had long forgotten. He’s gone too soon, however he reminded me that when it’s your time it’s your time. He will be missed. Wishing you comfort and peace as we remember his life.

Mike and I went all the way back to grade school. I struggle to come up with something to write because so many memories have flooded back to me. He was a core part of our group in high school, college and beyond. I send my heartfelt condolences to the wonderful Koehler family. Mike was my good friend and I look forward to gathering some day to remember the good times. Oh, the good times.

Koehler family, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Mike. He was a dear friend and we had such great times back in the day. We all knew we could count on Mike to liven up any room. He was a force for sure. I don't recall him saying a negative word about anyone. He was kind, charming and full of life. I will miss his spirit. Sending love and sympathy to you all.

Dear Koehler family - Mike WAS a great guy, and I loved him. His upbeat energy and gentle kindness was a unique and killer combo in our group of friends. Haven't seen him much these past years, but my heart leapt whenever I did. One of the last times, I was on a date at The Vernon Inn and he tried to convince me to ditch the guy and go for a ride in "the shark". Oh how I loved him for that - he made me feel 19 again. That, and many other memories, will always bring a smile to my face.
My deepest, heartfelt sympathy goes out to The Judge, Mrs. Koehler, Bill and the rest of the family. Your family, like ours, has suffered more than your share of tragic losses. I hope you find comfort and peace in the love you shared.

For Mike’s family,
Old CR friends are just learning the sad news. We’re heartbroken. While time and miles have separated many of us, we hold our memories of high school friends and fun times in Iowa City close to our hearts. We apologize for some of the shenanigans, but we had fun together. Our paths have crossed less often in recent years. I live in Wyoming now. But every so often Mike would pop up somewhere on a trip back home. He would flash that fabulous smile and we would pick up where we left off. We all knew Mike was a unique character, but I’m so sorry to learn the extent of his struggles. He was loved and he’ll be missed. Peace to you, Melanie
