First, my heartfelt condolences to the entire Caviness family. I first met Jim during the summer of 1970. I was pitching for Larry Lang Ford out of Cedar Falls. About every other week we'd travel to Cedar Rapids to play Welty Way. Win or lose Jim always treated me with respect. A great competitor. I truly regret missing your call in1972 to play with you in Manilla. Rest in peace my friend.

My Hearfelt Sympathies and Condolences go out to Percy, Ron, Jon, Carol, & Family for the death of Jim. When I worked with, or for Jim, he was tough, but fair to the Apprentices (Which I was one of). Who knows, Maybe Jim and Mike Palleson (A Fellow Local #125 Member, and Fast Player himself), and others are up in Heaven, trying to organize "A Fast Pitch Softball Game right now" ! Rest in Peace Jim. Keith Young

One of our very best friends and Jay’s fastpitch coach for years! All the wonderful vacations skiing together and our too many to count weekends of traveling for tournaments and having a blast with whole team, wives and children…. You will be dearly missed Jim…. But I am sure you have already moved on and are picking new players for your heavenly fastpitch team!!!! Thank you for always being up to trying new and crazy ideas I had!!! Like snowmobiling on the continental divide!!!! LOL… love you❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🏻

I was saddened to hear of Jim's passing. I worked with Jim both in the field and the office. We always had fun, Jim was a very hard worker and very smart taking care of numerus construction projects. Rest in peace.

To Percy, my one time neighbor, and daughter of my parents' friends George and Vera, my condolences and remembrance of Jim. I last saw him over a decade ago walking in Ellis Park, I had returned from Colorado to see my mom and bicycled to the park. We talked for about 15 minutes. He knew we were neighbors on G Avenue, though I was 13 years younger than he. But I knew him for many reasons. One was his surviving a head-splitting accident at the Ellis pool, I believe it was the high board. How precious life was, and us little kids understood what happened. Jim, in my remembrance, was personable and accomplished and loved his family. He was part of what defined the west side as a good place to be.
