Memorial
Melvin Svec, 87, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on November 8, 2022. A visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, November 13 at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 14 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Entombment with military honors will immediately follow.
Mel is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joanne; daughter Deborah Serbousek; grandchildren, Jeffrey Serbousek and Matthew (Hillary) Serbousek; great grandchildren, Brayley, Emreigh and Wattney Serbousek; sisters- in-law, Louellen Svec, Virginia Svec and Dorothy (Don) Ciha; brother-in-law, Daryl Gladwin and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Barbara Svec; daughter, Julie Svec; siblings, Arnie Svec, Verne Svec, Diane Gladwin; nephews, Bob Svec, Greg Ciha and Jeff Ciha.
Mel served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked at Rockwell Collins, Crutchley Farms, Inc., and later Rockwell Goss. He enjoyed growing flowers, mushroom hunting, was an avid Hawkeye fan, and a member of the Iowa Accordion Club. He enjoyed putting puzzles together; his biggest puzzle was 18,300 pieces. Mel loved his family and all animals.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Cedar Valley Humane Society.
