Roy Thomas Sadler, 91, of Marion, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2022. A graveside service, with Pastor Cecil Ballard officiating, will be held for the immediate family.  A Celebration of Life for family and his friends will be announced at a later date.

Roy was born on July 1, 1930 to John and Ethel (Lampman) Sadler in Hickory Valley, outside of Farley, Iowa. His parents and grandparents were champion butter makers, and he grew up working alongside them.  Whatever Roy set his mind to, he did with excellence.  He was an accomplished athlete, winning the state title in the mile run.  He lettered 4 years in track, baseball, and basketball at Central City High School.  Besides running track for the Hawkeyes, Roy held down 3 jobs to put himself through the mechanical engineering program at the University of Iowa.  Myrna (Stimson) and Roy were married on November 26, 1950 and started their family the following year.  To support them, Roy worked in Cedar Rapids as a welder/machinist before joining Carl Bruchner, who ran a machine repair shop along the Cedar River.  The ambitious and skilled upstart convinced the older Carl that he needed a partner, and eventually, bought him out.  They moved to a new location and became Sadler Machine Co. in 1956.  After 30 years, Roy & Myrna turned it over to their boys and spent winters in the sun.  It is currently in its 4th generation, operating as Sadler Machine and Sadler Power Train.  Roy was the first to warn us of the impending flood of 2008 and helped with the clean-up of the building.

Roy was a tough nut to crack but loved just the same.  He enjoyed gardening & golfing, bowling & boating (anything around the water), a Coke & the Cubs.  He and Myrna traveled extensively, to Africa and the Cayman Islands being two of their favorite destinations.

He is survived by his three sons, Steven (Jean Kraus) of Marion, John (Nancy) of Ely, and Thomas (Julie) of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Jill (Dustin) Sontag, Emily (Nicholas) Rivera, Roy Steven Sadler, Nathan (Jocelyn) Sadler, Adam (Sue Ann) Sadler, Aubrey Holsinger, Tommy (Sarah) Sadler, Meredith (Jarred) Sadler-Fayson, and Christopher (Sarah) Sadler; great grandchildren, Grace, Charlie, Elise, Nicholas Evan, Brady, Owen, Mabry, Ian, Olivia, Hannah, Hayden, Jonathan, Boston, Theo, Jack, Cruz and soon-to-be born Benjamin; his sister Virginia (Sadler) Maier of Marion; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Roy is preceded in death by his wife and lifelong partner, Myrna Sadler who passed in 2011, his brother Earl Sadler, brother-in-laws Lester Maier and Ralph Stimson, sister-in-law Anita Stimson, and his nephew Kent Stimson.
