R.I.P My 59 Brother You Will Be Sorely Missed Cando

So sorry to the Kelly family for your loss. Back in the early 1980s-I used to help Larry’s late friend - Tim McDonough - fix & clamp & pull auto rebuildable car frames at Tim’s shop. Larry was so talented & his paint work was Amazing when we dropped off rebuildable cars for him to finish in the walford iowa shop. Very hard worker! One of a kind gentleman! Gone too soon. Rip Larry

Larry had a big heart and always loved to share his knowledge of automobiles. I will miss him so much, God took him to soon. He had so many more things he wanted to do in life. He had several vehicles in the middle of being restored some here in Cedar Rapids and some also in Arizona. I always told him if he wanted it and had the money buy it. God needed a hero!

Larry was a kind and helpful neighbor. He will certainly be missed.

We just finished listening to the livestream funeral for dear Larry and enjoyed the words spoken by Pastor, the music and the folks who stood up to give personal thoughts. I have been sick all week and thought it best not to attend. God Bless and keep you in His care.

I am honored to have been able to be his friend. We shared a love of cars , cruises,& shows. He was an artist when it came to understand and build automotive works of art, I enjoyed his abilities but mostly his character and personality I loved him. RIP

So sorry for your loss. I was always a gearhead'. I remember cruising up and down 1st Ave in my 1972 Vega Hatchback with big tires and slotted ET wheels and Larry was always out with whatever ride he had at the time. Fond memories.

What can I say about someone who was thoughtful, trustworthy, honest and could and would speak from the heart. It was a heart of 'gold.' As a friend I learn early on he was a bit of a prankster on occasions, but it was always in good fun. That's how Larry lived his life as someone people could count on in so many ways. How lucky was I to meet him in Walford all those years ago. My thoughts and prayers are with Larry, 'His lovely wife Clara', and the entire family. God bless and rest in peace my friend.

Remembering Larry from St. Ludmila's grade school...he was always smiling and fun. He liked to throw snowballs at me and my 4 sibs on the way home. That wasn't so fun... but later he apologized for doing so. I will never forget that conversation as he stopped me as I was entering a grocery store on Johnson Ave. . He was a nice person and will be missed.

My late husband, Mike Kitson, graduated with Larry from Jefferson High School. We always took our car body work to Larry for repairs. Mike often old stories of 'drag racing' in the Jefferson parking lot driving one of Larry's cars. Perhaps they took the automotive class together. I wonder if Larry was part of the crew for the 'vice principal' VW incident. I know Mike and his brother were. Mike didn't make many friends, but I think Larry was one of the few.

So sorry to hear this. Larry was one of a kind. Fixed my vehicles whenever I needed it. Had a lot of fun watching him race! He was always so kind and helpful. Prayers for your family.

Dear Clara and the entire family — Our heartfelt condolences to you all upon the passing of a vibrant force in this world. John went to school with Larry since junior high at Wilson. He fixed a lot of our vehicles throughout the years . . . and did them right. We worked together on the planning committee for several Jefferson class reunions, too. Larry was a real mover & a shaker. Which reminds me that he had a dance club at the former movie theater, near Lindale Mall. We enjoyed knowing him and will always think of him as another Big Elf. Take care of yourselves!

Larry was a wonderful friend, he was liked by many and will be missed by many. Sincerest sympathy to his family. He was one of a kind gentleman.

I am so sorry for your loss. When I graduated from high school, Larry brought his race car to my graduation party - I treasure that memory!! It also meant a lot to my dad. We are grateful for his life and friendship.
