Maurece McCool passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at Oaknoll Retirement Center in Iowa City, IA.

Maurece was born on June 13, 1930, in Jamaica, IA to Thomas and Louise McDermott.  She enjoyed growing up on the family farm with her five siblings and with parents who instilled a strong work ethic and Catholic upbringing.

Maurece was a wonderful, caring, and loving mother to her nine children.  Her talents were not limited to cooking, cleaning, and sewing, although she excelled at them all.  After her youngest started school Maurece went to work outside the home.  She enjoyed her time in quality assurance, hotel management, and advertising sales.  During this time Maurece was also enjoying a newfound hobby of flipping houses.

She is survived by her children: Vicki Anderson (Conrad) of Cottage Grove, WI; Mark McCool (Jan) of Cedar Rapids, IA; Cindy Caspers of Glen Ellyn, IL; Caroline McCool of Cedar Rapids, IA; Jenni McCool of Winona, MN; Lisa McCool of Cedar Rapids, IA; Pat McCool of Iowa City, IA; and Mike McCool (Jane Mayhew) of Maple Grove, MN.

Her nine grandchildren: Danielle Wepking (Brandon) of Cedar Rapids, IA; Nathan Anderson (Kaitlin) of Glen Ellyn, IL; Matt Anderson (Tina) of Saviese, Switzerland; Moses Simon (Marla) of Winona, MN; Will Caspers of Lusaka, Zambia; Johnny Caspers (Libby) of Oakland, CA; Lucas McCool of Iowa City, IA; David Lawrence (Ann) of Cedar Rapids, IA; and Gina Holmstedt of Cedar Rapids, IA.

Her ten great-grandchildren: Ella Anderson, Evan Anderson, Lia Anderson, Maya Anderson, Sophia Wepking, Isabella Wepking, Judah Simon, Sam Lawrence; Maddy Holmstedt and Ryan Holmstedt.  And her nieces, nephews, and their families.

Maurece was preceded in death by her daughter Theresia, her former husband Bill McCool, her parents, her siblings and their spouses.
