A Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 PM, Sunday, October 3, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories State Room. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, October 4, 2021 at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Catherine was born on April 8, 1924, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, one of six children to Sam and Selma (George) Slaman. She married Nick Abodeely November 20, 1955, at Calvary Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids where they attended for over 60 years. Before taking on the important role of married life, she did secretarial work while always being a support to her parents, her brothers and sisters and their families.

Her devotion to family was the guiding theme of her life as she lovingly cared for her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews. Her home was filled with love and genuine devotion to the children in her care and they will never forget her lifelong presence in their lives.  Her passion for cooking and gift for creating unforgettable family dinners were signature moments for all those whose presence in her life she welcomed.

And while devotion to family, the children she cared for and church life defined her life, she will also be remembered for her artistic gifts – her landscape painting, portraiture painting and her love of classical music, especially opera. Whether it was Great Performances on public television or live events in the community, these were precious experiences she privately cherished.

Catherine is survived by her two sons David and Tim (Colleen) Abodeely; two granddaughters Michelle (Jesse) Peters and Allison (Ryan) Pramberg; four great grandchildren, Raelyn, Cael, Kaylee, and Savannah and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Nick, of 65 years, two sisters Mary Nassif and Mathilda Slaman, and three brothers Michael Slaman, Eugene Slaman, and Floyd Slaman.

The family extends its appreciation to the staff at the Rehabilitation Center of Lisbon for their compassionate care.

Memorials in Catherine’s memory may be sent to Calvary Baptist Church Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
