Peter Olney, 73, passed away at his home in Cumming, IA on February 18, 2021 after battling to get out of the hospital for the past 4 months.  The family is holding a private burial followed by a celebration of life. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. “Following the continued guidance from health officials, physical distancing must be practiced which requires a limited number of people allowed into the visitation at one time. The use of facemasks or shields is required.”

Pete was born on December 6, 1947 in Clinton, IA to Robert and Charlotte Olney.  They moved to Cedar Rapids where he graduated from Washington High School in 1965.  After a brief stint at the University of Iowa, he went to serve his country as a member of the Army in Vietnam in 1968.

Upon return from Vietnam, Pete spent time with the Rock Island railroad and eventually at Archer Daniels Midland in Cedar Rapids, IA and Decatur, IL.  He successfully ran the Ethanol division and worked his way to a Vice President role prior to his retirement in 2007.  He was living proof of what hard work and building relationships can accomplish in your career.

Pete is remembered by many for his love of a good time and big heart (although he didn’t like to show it).  He was quick to buy a round of drinks and was never too far from a Miller Lite. He was an amazing husband, father, PawPaw, brother, uncle and friend who was loved by everyone he met.  He enjoyed spending time with his very close group of friends and family.  He was happiest when he was fishing, golfing, playing cards, and pheasant hunting.  Over the years, Pete and Jodi had many German Shorthair Pointers that were near to their hearts.  He was passionate about the Iowa Hawkeyes and represented them well while living in Illinois!

He is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Charlotte.  He is survived by his wife Jodi (married in 1992), his ex-wife Linda, his son Rob (Wendi), and daughter Michelle (Wade), as well as his sisters Patti and Pam, and grandchildren Zachary, Mackenzie, Carly, and Luke, and his beloved dogs Rocky & Maggie.
