Gary Barmore 84, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at MeadowView Memory Care Village, Cedar Rapids. Services: Private. Pastor Trish Decker from Gloria Dei Lutheran Church will officiate.  A visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. As mandated by proclamation, social distancing must be practiced which requires a limited number of people to be allowed into the visitation at one time. The use of facemasks or shields is required.

Gary will be forever loved and cherished by his children; David (Sue) Barmore, Daniel (Teresa) Barmore and Douglas Barmore. Gary is also survived by six grandchildren: Emily Barmore, Madison Barmore, Hannah Barmore, Amanda (Sean) Starr, Amber (Kevin) Darling and Andrew Barmore; and 4 great grandchildren.

Gary was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn, his parents, Dwight and Iva and a great grandson Hendrick Darling. 

Gary was born July 7, 1936 in Sauk Centre City, Minnesota. He was the older of two sons. Gary graduated from Luverne High School in 1954. He then joined the Army serving for 2 years. While at a dance in 1956, he met an old classmate, JoAnn Aanenson. They were married on December 27, 1958. They made their home in Luverne while he finished college at Augustana. Gary was manager of JC Penny’s and a Pamida. In 1974, Gary and JoAnn moved to Cedar Rapids and managed the Goodyear Tire Store and later Kmart Service Center. Gary also worked for Mr. Gutter for many years. After Gary and JoAnn moved into their condo on Greenbriar, Gary became president of the condo association. Gary truly enjoyed taking care of the grounds, building and lending a helping hand when needed by others. 

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids or Mercy Care Hospice.
