Clare and family, I just heard of Tom's passing. Tom's passion for Spinner family research motivated me to be a part of the Spinner reunion group. Mary and I looked so forward to seeing you and Tom and having our meeting at the cafe in Lansing. Tom will be missed. I will do my best to continue to research and document the Spinner history and I dedicate all the work on that to Tom. Tom was a great leader and mentor. He left his mark on me and for that I can not thank him enough. The Spinners and the world has truly lost a kind gentleman. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you and to continue Tom's legacy. God Bless you and Tom and family. John Great Great Grandson of Barnhart Spinner, the brother of Peter Spinner.

I am a former student of Dr. Slattery's....Class of '76. I am so sorry for you loss. I have lost contact with him but thought of him often. He was an amazing person and always so encouraging to me. Three things always stick out in my mind....everytime I see an MGB I think of him as he graciously let me drive his car back to Coe after an orchestra gig...he knew I could drive a shift! That was very fun for a 20 year old from northern MN! He gave me the best possible student teaching experience one could have with Mary Eby Wyck at Linn Mar, and everytime I am in an office loaded with diplomas on a wall, I recall sitting in his office at Coe looking at one lone diploma on his wall...either from junior high or high school. He remarked that that was the one that made the biggest difference in his life. A humbling and truthful reply. This has to be tremendous loss and your hearts are heavy. I'm glad you had many good years with him! I was able to have a successful career as a music educator and it has a lot to do with him and his encouragement and positive attitude. Sincerely, Bailey Soderberg Conger, Cook, MN

Clare and family, We are so sorry to hear of Dr. Slattery's passing. Tom inspired me to go on the 1970 European tour (7 countries in 28 days - an experience of a lifetime!) with the Coe band, which would not have happened without his support. He also supported my family in real estate related activities in Cedar Rapids, as recently as last year. Condolences to you for your loss. Dr. Slattery will be missed.

Clare and family, Don and Ellen: I was so sorry to hear of Tom's passing. It has been so many years since I have seen any of you. I live in Davenport now, and am retired from classroom music teaching, choir director, organist. My daughter is a music teacher here, and their son is just starting his music ed. degree at University of Iowa, so the music goes on! I'm sure Tom's music is being enjoyed in heaven!

Condolences Clare and thank you and Tom for the positive influence on one of the many life's you both impacted.

We are so sorry to hear this. Please note our tribute at https://percygraingeramerica.org/ Tom's book on Percy Grainger has inspired many and we are deeply greatful.

My condolences to the Slattery family. Mr. Slattery was a great ambassador for family, golf and Elmcrest Country Club. Mr. Slattery will be missed but I will cherish the times we had together.

Clare, I am so sorry to hear about Tom's passing. It's been years since I've seen you two. I always appreciated how kind Tom was to me. Laurie

To Clare and the family of Tom, I extended my sincerest condolences and sympathies. I was became acquainted with Tom when we worked several commercial real estate transactions with his firm. He was the consummate businessman. Tom, thank you for your service to our country an community and keep the music flowing in your new assignment. Bob "Bobert" Bembenek

One of the most brilliant true gentlemen ever met & enjoyed a cocktail with. Whenever, wherever ran into "Slats" was truly an enjoyable experience!

I'm so very sorry to learn of the loss of Tom. He and my dad, Jack Laugen, were very close friends. I am quite sure they are together again telling bad jokes and reliving their love of and support of Cedar Rapids and Coe College. God Bless the Slattery family.

My condolences to Clare, Tom Jr, James and other family members. Tom was a great guy and a friend at Elmcrest’ for years. Played in his golf group for years and also got together with him for several years in FLA for golf. I didn’t even realize he was ill until a few days ago when Roget Norton notified me. Again, a really great guy, smart and funny. I’ll miss you, Thomas.

Condolences to the Slattery family. Tom was a wonderful man he will be missed by many. Our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. The Westercamps

Condolences to you, Clare, and to Tom (who I knew as Mike, so many years ago) and Jim as well. The Larry Slattery family was such an integral part of Waterville and Cherry Mound, so my memories go back a long way. I certainly remember Tom's gift of a great sense of humor! And of course I remember traveling with your family in 1968, when Tom was doing research at the Library of Congress in D.C. My thoughts and prayers to all of you at this time.

Sympathy to all the family on the death of 'Tommy' from another Cherry Mound person who was gifted with the friendship of the Slattery family for so many years. I am now a pastoral assistant at Holy Child Parish in Regina, Saskatchewan and often share a bit of wisdom Tommy gifted to me one summer day when he popped into the Grady house for a visit when he was in the area checking out some land!! And his parents were dear fiends of all our family and Ester's gift of music has lived on with me for all my life! Take care and God bless all the Slattery family!!

Clare, Tom & Lisa and families, Our heartfelt condolences! May your memories be a constant blessing to you. Steve & Megan and Herman Ginsberg

Tom - so sorry to hear of the passing of your father. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. Cathy Ehnen

My condolences go out to Jim and the entire family. Tom certainly passed on his musical talent, humor and spirit. What wonderful contributions he made to this world and I am sorry for your loss. Peace to all.

My condolences to Clare and family. I am forever grateful to Tom. Without my knowledge he pulled military strings and had me transferred from the infantry in Munich, Germany to an administrative position with the 7th Army Symphony Orchestra. Tom and I subsequently shared many experiences including selling American cigarettes on the black market in Venice to wrecking his new sports car on the streets of Stuttgart. Cobblestone streets, rain and excellent German beer may have been contributing factors. Traveling with Tom was always an adventure. Gary Kraft

Sending my deepest condolences to the friends and family of Tom. He was such a neat man, had so much character, and was a treasure to be around and hear his stories! I wish he would have told me more about his love for music! I never knew that about Tom. I pray the Lord comforts you during this difficult time. May your memories of Tom bring you joy. God Bless!
