Uncle Bob was the last surviving uncle of a great group of uncles in our family, all of whom I came to think of as terrific examples of hard working, kind and exemplary men. Real mentors, all of them. Uncle Bob and the others, all veterans (my dad included), were the vanguard of the greatest generation. I miss all of them. Uncle Bob was a great listener. He always had something rather sage to say, and if not, it was a humorous quip or story. He was good company. He did love to fish and often asked me about my own luck on the water. He was engaging…even in his older age he took an interest in what was happening in your life and how you were doing. He was complementary and he was kind. The place he held in our lives will not be filled easily.

Ann worked for Bob and I knew him through her. He was a fine man and we miss our meetings at the "chicken ranch". Our thoughts and prayers and deepest condolences are with your entire family.

My deepest condolences on the loss of your husband and father. I was lucky enough to meet Bob at my first job at Klinger Robinson McCluskey and Ford. Bob was already retired but was in the office frequently. I loved visiting with him and learning from him. He was a tremendous person.

I was one a lucky one, living next door and growing with his kids. He was always fair, consistent in his attitudes towards life. He was a great role model for a kid. I continue to see them both EVERY time I come to Iowa, for my own benefit but mostly as a way to say thanks for him being a mentor of character, for my life.Pat

To the family of Robert Ford, Please accept my deepest sympathy for the loss of Bob. I am probably the last person who knew Bob when he was on the Riverfront commission as I worked there then. It was also my pleasure to know and work with Pat, Dave and Ed. I enjoyed talking with the Judge at his home or work. His age and service in WWII mirrored my fathers service record , he was also named Bob. Again my condolences to your entire great family. Robert Burns

Dearest Arlis and family. What a loss to our little slice of Heaven in Hiawatha and to all of Cedar Rapids. Who can forget this smart, witty and wise man. We are proud to have known him for these past 19+ years. May you all have peace in remembering the good times and beautiful memories. God Bless you and your family. Joyce & Carl

I didn't know Bob before he became a District Court Judge. I learned quickly that his Court was a pleasure to appear in. That he was smart was a given. Judge Ford was outstanding in every way. He was prompt, compassionate, respectful to lawyers and litigants and a credit to the judicial branch. His death is a loss to all who knew him--and I'm sorry for the family's loss. Pat

Arlis Ford and family, Barb and I would like to extend our sincere sympathies and deepest prayers on your loss of Bob. Bob was a great man to everyone who had the pleasure to meet and know him. His fairness, sense of humor, knowledge and above all his love of God, family and country were an outstanding example for all of us. "Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon him." "May he rest in eternal peace. Amen." "May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen." Deacon Bob and Barb Hurych

So sorry to hear of Judge Fords passing, I met him and Arlis at the gym in water aerobics class years ago, such a nice couple, to Arlis & family.......you have my sympathy.

So sorry to hear of Mr. Ford passing away. I remember him fondly as I do the whole family. Please accept my sincere condolences and best wishes.

We are so sorry to hear about Robert's passing. He led such a full wonderful life and touched so many people. We always loved our little visits with him and Arlis at Roasters coffee. To all of us he was always known as "The Judge". Our thougths and prayers go out to his family.

Was so sorry to see that Bob passed away . I wanted to let Arlis and Bob's family know that my prayers are with them now. Bob was one of my first patients that I had the honor and privilege to get to know over the last 30ys. Over those years I got to know and love both Bob and Arlis. I always looked so forward to seeing both of them as they are truly quality People. The world has lost a wonderful man. sincerely , Steve Wahle md

Arlis & Family, I want to extend to you my condolences on the loss of Bob. Bob was a gifted trial lawyer and a fine judge. He served our state well as district court judge. He mentored countless young attorneys including myself as we entered the profession he loved. I learned a lot from him when I had the opportunity to work with him early on in my career. It was a privilege to know him, and I shall miss him.

To Arlis and my other Ford "cousins": I can't tell you how incredibly sorry I am for the loss of such a wonderful man. I have so many memories of Uncle Bob and the rest of you. He always made me laugh, because he could never remember which Fitzpatrick daughter I was, so he usually called me Rene'. As I told Liz on the phone, I always felt that your family was our connection to our Seattle cousins so therefore, you too, are our cousins in my heart (whether you like it or not). Just know that as we walk through this journey together of loss of both Bob and Mom this week that you're on my mind and heart. God bless. Denise Fitzpatrick
