Magdalena “Joey” Pearson, 96, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday March 31, 2020, in Manor Care Nursing Home in Cedar Rapids. She was born March 18, 1924 in Lincoln, Nebraska to John and Lydia Hinkle. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1942.

She met her husband Evert Victor Pearson while he was stationed in the Army in Nebraska, while she working at the lunch counter at the Burlington Depot. They were married on March 10, 1944 in her parent’s home in Lincoln, Nebraska. They moved to Chicago, Illinois and then settled in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where they made their home and raise four children. 

She worked at Whitwer Farm Market, and retired from Turner Microphone. She also worked part-time at Hy-Vee Food Store. She was a life time member of V.F.W. Auxiliary. She will be fondly remembered for her crocheting. She made afghans for gifts and friends as well as lap robes she donated to different facilities in Cedar Rapids. She like to go to yards sales and had many collectables. Magdalena was an excellent cook and like to play her organ.

Survivors include her children; Magdalena Pearson of Marion, Iowa, Lydia Tobin of Marengo, Iowa, Evert Victor Pearson Jr. (Bud) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Ellen (Joe) Hakes of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren and 9 siblings.

Magdalena was preceded in death by her parents and husband Evert Victor Pearson.
