Dear Kay, Missy and Mick I am so Very sorry I just heard about Mike passing away. Hold the memories close if I can do anything please let me know so very sorry. Love Gene

My heart goes out to all of you. I took care of Mike's Dad there at home with hospice care, he was always so kind and caring and I enjoyed getting to know his dad through his words. Keep your memories close and the smiles will come again soon.

I was shocked and saddened to hear about Mike's passing. My deepest condolences to Mike's family.

Kay, Jordan and Madison- We are so sorry to hear of Mike’s passing. Our daughter Madison went to school with your Madison. The Ehlert family was one of the original Fox Trail families in our neighborhood. And Kay, I remember you fondly from Westfield as I was an active volunteer in the building and with PTO when my kids went through Westfield. You are all in our prayers. Becky, Don, Madison and Blake Esker

I am so sorry to hear this. I graduated with Mike and only had seen him later at Villa's in Marion. I appreciated our conversations there and the comrodery

Aunt Kay, Missy & Mick, I can't begin to tell you how sorry I am about Mike's passing. It's so hard to believe that he's gone. All of you and Mike's kids are in my thoughts and prayers. Let me know if there's anything I can do. Love you all! Teri

Myself and Laura are sorry to hear about Mike's passing. Mike was a great neighbor on Acacia Drive with his help and knowledge. We are sorry to hear of his passing and may God be by his side.

When I moved to Linn-Mar in 6th grade, Mike Ehlert was one of my first and best friends. Fond memories with Mike: • Playing football in the park behind his house • Riding the school bus together • Skateboarding • Hanging out with Bruce Cuffel • Playing with lighter fluid and setting a skateboard on fire (not a smart move) • Going to see a Linda Ronstadt concert together (we both had crushes on her) • Attending the drag races in Cordova, Illinois • Attending the World of Wheels at the Five Season center • Sawing the tops off of beaver cut trees with his Dad. That was an extraordinary day with them. • Riding RAGBRAI together on a hilly, nasty and rainy week of Iowa torture • Double dating for our freshman homecoming dance (I remember Mike cutting his steak at the Five Seasons restaurant and the whole table shook) • Riding mopeds to Westdale Mall (Mike got a ticket for an expired license plate) • Eating Mr. Bill’s Pizza • Jumping off a friend’s roof into his swimming pool several times (not our smartest decision) • Training and running 5Ks and 10Ks together • Cheering him on at cross-country meets • Mike and I spending the weekend with his sister at UNI. That was really cool, thanks to Missy. • Mike working at Marion Ski and Recreation (and me being jealous that Frank wouldn’t hire me) • Waterskiing on the Cedar River • Mike and I hanging out in my Iowa City dorm room and playing music so loud that the Resident Assistant from two floors above us came down to chastise us. Mike grew up in a very close knit family. His parents were super cool, Missy was a beautiful angel and Mick was a young stud. Fond memories of all the times at their house. Mike’s passing reminds me of the final quote in the movie Stand by Me, ‘"I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?" Mike was very special and a very good soul. We will miss him. Much Love to Mike and Family. You are in my prayers – K.P. Lansing of Western Springs, Illinois

Dear Ehlerts: The Stone family (and all the other remaining 23rd Avenue neighbors) were sad to read of Mike's death. He was something else! My parents will be unable to attend the service but wanted me to let you know they are thinking of you and to let us know if we can help in any way. RIP Mike! Bill
