Don Glass, 79, of Cedar Rapids, died on Friday, November 8, 2019.  Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, where there will be a visitation beginning at 9 a.m. Inurnment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Judy; daughter Julie (Paul) Zastrow; son, Allen (Becky) Glass, all of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Charmon (Larry) Meyer of Muscatine, and brother, Eugene Robert Glass of Cedar Rapids.  He is also survived by his pride and joy — grandchildren Will and Mason Zastrow, both students at Iowa State University — and his funny, squirrel-chasing dog, Abby.

Don was born in Waterloo, Iowa, on October 17, 1940, the son of Allen and Esther Glass.  He graduated from Washington High School in 1959 and was married to Judy Berstler on August 20, 1960.  He worked for Northwestern Bell/U.S. West in a variety of positions from January 1960 until retirement in July 1994.  From there he worked for McLeod Telecommunications and Kirkwood Community College.

Don has always attributed the direction of his life to a McKinley High School vocal music teacher, “Mr. A” (Anthony), who pulled him in from the hall one day and urged him to join choir.  Whether in school or in his church, Central Park Presbyterian (now Echo Hill Presbyterian Church), choir has always remained a priority.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

“Carry on, Will and Mason. I will be with you always!”
