Jan M. Berry was born in 1942 to Edwin & Ruby (Thisius) Jensen of  Keister, MN .  She graduated from Keister High School in 1960. She later met the man she would marry, Darrel Berry, also of Keister, MN. They moved around the Midwest until finally settling in Cedar Rapids, and got to the business of raising a family and making lifelong friends.

Jan was a homemaker & loving mother to her 3 children. She devoted her time to her kids and being a neighborhood mom to many kids of the “Center Street Gang”.  She and Darrel spent many summer weeks at Lake Delhi where they eventually built a home and retired.  She and Darrel also loved wintering over in Arizona eventually splitting their time between Iowa and sunny Arizona.

She loved boating and socializing with her many friends on the lake and her door was always open. She was always ready with a smile and a refreshment to greet friends and family popping in off the lake to eat, chat or visit. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren and was so proud of their achievements in school, track and showing cattle at the State Fair.

Jan passed away Friday, March 15th, 2019 in Gilbert, AZ after a lengthy illness of cancer. She stood her ground and fought the fight like a champion. She was surrounded by family & friends who loved her when she passed. We will miss her beautiful smile and that sparkle that lit up her beautiful brown eyes.

Jan is survived by her son Troy (Penny) Berry of Cedar Rapids, IA her daughter Shawn (Dave) Lock of Packwood, IA. Four Grandchildren: Payton, Taylor, Hunter and Scout Lock. Brother, Dale (Pat) Jensen, sister-in-law Karen Jensen and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Edwin and Ruby Jensen, husband Darrel Berry, son Shane Berry and Brother Don Jensen of Albert Lea, MN.

A special note of thanks - to her great friends for the support you gave her after Darrel died and her diagnosis of cancer.  It is in these times that the true value of friendships cannot be measured.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 pm on Monday March 25, 2019 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, 4200 First Ave NE, Cedar Rapids, interment to follow.
