Margaret E. Kacena, 93, of Cedar Rapids passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital. A visitation will be on Monday, June 4, 2018 12-1pm at First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids.  Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 4, 2018 at 1 PM following the visitation at the church.  Graveside services will be held in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery following the service at the church.

Margaret E. Ernst was born on May 10, 1925 on a farm near Atkins; the daughter of George and Theresa (Kollenkark) Ernst. She worked at LaPlant –Choate after graduation from Newhall.  Married Robert C. Kacena on November 30, 1946 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids.  Worked at Coulter Motor Company in Phoenix, AZ while Bob went to Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ.  Returned to Cedar Rapids, had three sons.  She then worked in Cedar Rapids Food Service at Garfield for 25 years.  Margaret was a member of First Lutheran Church, VFW Auxiliary Post 788, Reserve Officers Association League (ROAL) and the Cedar Rapids Elks Lodge 251.  She enjoyed knitting, avid Iowa State Cyclones Fan, and loved spending time with family and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers Allen and Dean Ernst. 

Left to cherish Margaret’s memories are her children, Neil (Jennifer) Kacena, Jeff “JR” Kacena and Doug (Stephanie) Kacena; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Judy Ernst.
