Lois Mary Koppes McGannon passed away at home from cancer on December 26, 2018, with her loving family by her side.
A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 am on Friday January 4, 2019, with a service to immediately follow, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, 4200 First Avenue NE, Cedar Rapids. Interment will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Lois was born on June 28, 1931 to Harold and Bertha Koppes in Bellevue, Iowa. Upon graduation from St. Joseph’s High School in Bellevue, she continued her education, graduating from St. Ambrose School of Nursing, in Davenport, Iowa. While attending college, she met the love of her life, Robert “Bob” McGannon, later marrying in 1954.
Lois spent many years working as a Registered Nurse in Iowa City, Chicago, and Cedar Rapids. Lois and Bob enjoyed their time together playing golf, traveling, and especially watching the Hawkeyes! Bob passed away unexpectedly while golfing in 1996, Lois retired that same year. She has since enjoyed many good times with friends, going out to lunch, traveling the United States and abroad, tending to her beautiful flowers, shopping with “her girls” and many years of special family holidays. Lois always commented how lucky she was to have all of her children living close by, as well as most of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory are children, Tracey (Roderic) Malcolm, Tom McGannon, Kelly (Alan) Baker, and Michaela (Todd) Sabin; grandchildren, Brent (Ashley), Taylor, Kyle and Connor Malcolm; Ryan, Allie and Louis McGannon; Nick (Shelly) Reed, Alec, Shea and Alana Sabin; Sara (Nate) Neuhaus and Taylor Baker; Great-grandchildren, Laila, Grant, Remington, Max, Sloane, Finley and Baker; brother Robert (Caroline) Koppes; sisters-in-law, Patricia Hinton, Kathleen Horton, Michaela (John) Metz, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, and daughter-in-law Jane McGannon.
Lois’ family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Chirantan Ghosh, the staff at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, and her two special nurses Kelly and Kelly, for their compassionate and loving care.
Memorials may be directed in Lois’ name to Waypoint Services, the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, or a charity of the givers choice.
