David W. Brown, 79, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Friday, February 24, 2017 at his residence.

Tribute services in his honor will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories.  The family will greet friends from 12 noon until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service in the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel Stateroom.

David Wayne Brown was born August 18, 1937 in Storm Lake, Iowa the son of Harry and Marybel Brown. He graduated from Benson High School in Omaha, NE. David earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Nebraska in Mechanical Engineering. On June 19, 1960 he married Carol Moorhead in Omaha, NE.  He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1965. David then worked briefly at Natkin and Company (in Omaha and then in Iowa City).  In 1965 he began working for Modern and Puth in Cedar Rapids, which later became Modern Piping, retiring in 1995.  

David enjoyed flying, Nebraska football, golf, tennis, scuba diving, sailing, hockey, water and
snow skiing, fishing, boating, and being “Mr. Fix-It”. His memberships included AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association), Beta Theta Pi, MCAI (Mechanical Contractors Association of Iowa), Board of Directors Solon State Bank, and Marco Lutheran Church, Marco Island, FL. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Carol Brown of Cedar Rapids, IA; three children, David (Cindy) Brown of Solon, IA; Kristin (Rob) White of Mason City, IA; and Ken (Alison) Brown of Cedar Rapids, IA; a brother, Dennis (Bev) Brown of Omaha, NE; a uncle Don (Anne) Bice of Scottsdale, AZ; brother-in-law, Ken (Gerry)Moorhead of Boulder, CO; seven grandchildren; Bob and Nick Brown, Allison and Alex White, Chris, Zack and Brady Brown.

Preceded in death by his parents and best friend, Jim Shive. 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) and LLS (Leukemia and Lymphoma Society).
