It was my privilege to have known Charlotte for over fifty years. Team teaching together at Polk School in the 1980’s was amazing. I remember her often saying, “If they knew how much fun we were having, they wouldn’t pay us.” During that time she invited me to work with her backstage at Theatre Cedar Rapids… a stay that lasted nearly nine years. Banana daiquiris at the Tic Toc or making Kahlua in one of our kitchens; shopping trips to Des Moines, or breakfasts at the Spring House. Time with Charlotte made everything an adventure. I could not have asked for a better colleague or friend. She blessed my life in so many ways.

Charlotte will always be a part of Brucemore's story. She had the rare ability to take care of business in a way that was nonetheless welcoming. She displayed a pleasant command of her situation and earned the respect of visitors and the affection of her co-workers. We at Brucemore miss her very much.

We have adored & admired Charlotte for decades...from long ago at the community theatre, through her years on house staff and as a guide at Brucemore, as well as the years she was involved with The Classics at Brucemore. Charlotte ran a tight ship with a great sense of care, passion and humor. An amazing woman... We send heartfelt sympathy to her family and to all who knew & loved her.

Charlotte was my 5th grade teacher at Hiawatha Elementary. Then we ran into each other at TCR. I was privileged to work with her on crew, she was an awesome Stage Manager. Then volunteered as usher when she House Managed at TCR. Always smiling and always a lot of fun. She loved to laugh and always found a way to make you laugh. Will be missed. My condolences to the family.

I worked part time with Charlotte at the Brucemore mansion. I always enjoyed our talks, the friendship we shared and her passion for books. Very intersting and active woman. We spent many an hour visiting about all her activities while waiting for a tour to come to the mansion. I am sorry for your loss.

I taught with Charlotte at Franklin Middle School in Cedar Rapids.. She was an excellent teacher. She was passionate about teaching and was the most organized individual I have ever met. Kids really enjoyed her. I admire any teacher that can be a member of the profession for 43 years. She will be missed.

Charlotte was a passionate, dependable, and forthright colleague, employee, and friend. She stage managed Classics at Brucemore for ten years after seeing the debut production in 1996. I worked with her on a transition team for students moving from middle school to high school. She was the stage manager for some of my most memorable productions at Theatre Cedar Rapids. Her attention to detail and policy as a part-time employee at Brucemore helped to define the site and its relationship to its visitors. Yes, she could be stubborn at times - can't we all? - but I knew her heart was always with her students, colleagues, and friends. Please accept my sympathies at her passing.

I have fond memories of team teaching with Charlotte at Hiawatha Elementary, her hosting a baby shower for my son #2 (child #3), and for her many words of encouragement to a "newer" teacher, and her straight forward words of advice. She touched many lives as a teacher and volunteer at Brucemore. May she RIP, and may your memories of her keep her in your heart forever. Sincere condolences.
