George “Bud” Barber, 92, of West Liberty, died Thursday July 14, 2016 in Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty. Services:  11:00 a.m. Tuesday at First Church United in West Liberty. A visitation will be held on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Tuesday.  Pastor Marian Hart will officiate.  Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Survivors include his significant other, Norma Brooks and the Raub, Myers, and Johnson families, his children; Mary (Mick) Fliehler of Hiawatha, Iowa, William (Jackie) Barber of St. Charles, Missouri, Richard (Paula) Barber of Olathe, Kansas, and Elizabeth Jones of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Also surviving is his brother, Arthur L. Fry of St. Paul, Minnesota, 7 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marie Barber, his parents Nevada and Lawrence Fry, his sister, Elizabeth Mossimann, son-in-law, Leon Jones and his great great granddaughter, Nyelee Akus.

George was born January 4, 1924 in Ames, Iowa, where he  graduated from Ames High School.  He married Marie Oetker on May 26, 1947 in Haverhill, Iowa. She died in 1996. He then met Norma Brooks and moved to West Liberty. George retired from Harnishfeger as a supervisor of data operations and served in the Navy during World War II.  He was a member of First Church United in West Liberty, the American Legion Mansell L. Phillips Post 509, Harnischfeger Retirees.  George enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, and helping Norma with gardening.
