Evelyn Corbett Dunston, 95, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. Funeral Service: 2:00 pm Friday, January 22, 2016 at Noelridge Christian Church in Cedar Rapids. A visitation will be held one hour prior to service. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Evelyn was born May 9, 1920, on a farm near Vinton, Iowa.  Her parents were Wilhelmina McMillan Corbett and Luvern Corbett. She attended elementary school in a one room country school and graduated from Brandon High School in Brandon, Iowa.  After graduation she lived with her aunt and cousin in Tucson, Arizona and attended a business college.  Upon returning to Vinton she met the love of her life, Lyle Dunston and they were married at her parent’s farm home June 23, 1941.  They lived in Burlington, Iowa, and Muscatine, Iowa, for short periods of time before moving to Cedar Rapids. They were married 69 years before Lyle’s death July 21, 2010.  She worked at various jobs throughout their married life: as a school secretary; a bookkeeper; and a bank teller.

She was proud to be a charter member of the Noelridge Park Christian Church in Cedar Rapids where she sang in the choir for many years, taught Sunday School and was also active in other areas of the church.  She and Lyle travelled throughout most of the U.S. in a travel trailer after Lyle’s retirement and then spent most of their winters in Texas where they enjoyed square dancing.  Evelyn’s hobbies included crossword puzzles, taking family pictures and pictures of their travels. She compiled many photo albums of their adventures.  For the past three years she has resided in Waterloo, Iowa.

Evelyn is survived by her two children, Lani Yates of Waterloo, Iowa and Dennis (Sherrie) Dunston of Woodland, California; 3 grandchildren, Dustin (Kelli) Yates, Brett (Deanna) Yates, Sean Dunston; one great grandchild, Eleanor Yates; and two brothers, Richard Corbett and Dr. Oran (Lee) Corbett.  She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her brother, Ben Corbett; and her son-in-law, Steve Yates. Her family and friends were her life.  She loved them dearly.

Memorials may be directed to Noelridge Christian Church in memory of Evelyn.
