I met Jack when he started getting Meals on Wheels. Delivered to him on Saturdays and/or Sundays until the cut back to only weekdays at the end of July this year. Jack was always upbeat and smiling. I always tried to do my route so I could deliver to him last since I knew he would have something to tell me about the family, weather, trips, Beejay , etc, plus then I could go up the road to do my grocery shopping at Fareway when he would ask about. Jack even laughed when I back into the mailbox and broke the wooden post. He said had been waiting for someone to do that since it was so close to the driveway. Thank goodness for his son Rick and Grandson Chad for one of them had a spare post in their garage and it was up very quickly and he would not let me pay him anything either. From then on I parked on the left side of the driveway. He would have the garage door open when the walk was too snowy or icy or if it was raining too hard because he didn't want me to fall or bet any wetter than I already was. Jack will be missed most for his smile and caring way.

I first met Jack in Late July 1966,after I was lured away from a Collins desk job To make better money in road construction. Questions as to the wisdom of my decision crossed my mind, but I survived and put in 18 Summers with E&F Paving, and I became friends with the best boss in the world. Jack was a wonderful man, and a fellow Marine. Our low maintenance friendship endured even as time and old age took its toll.
In those early years, He always had a job for me.
I'm sorry he's gone, but I'll have good memories to remind me of this good man.
