Selma Arlene Kanellis, 91, of Cedar Rapids passed away on Friday, February 6, 2015 at MethWick Community in Cedar Rapids. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 10th, 2015 at 11:00 AM, with a visitation beginning an hour prior, at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Steven Knudson. Burial will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Selma was born on October 01, 1923 to Anton and Sigrid (Jerdee) Sanderson in Lawler, Iowa. Selma graduated from New Hampton High School in 1941. From 1941 to 1945 she worked at Bendex in Chicago before returning to Cedar Rapids. She was married George Kanellis on January 26, 1965 in Kewanee, Illinois. Selma worked for Rockwell Collins as a secretary for 22 in half years. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Selma is survived by her siblings, Kenneth (Velma) Sanderson of Ft. Worth, Texas; Allan (Ann) Sanderson of Oelwein; Janice Ohm of New Hampton; Hazel Lantz of Waterloo; JoAnn Johnson of Cedar Rapids; dear friends Bob and Helga Berry of Cedar Rapids; 4 step-children and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers Carmen and Richard Sanderson.
The family would like to thank all the residents and staff from the MethWick Community and Hospice of Mercy for their love, support and tender care given to Selma.
