Margaret M. Schmidt, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully Thursday December 3, 2015, at Heritage Specialty Care.  Funeral Services will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, where a visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Hospice Chaplin, Mike Goodrich will officiate. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Survivors include her sister Ruby Nelson and four nephews of Williston, North Dakota, two daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Gary Williams of Brainerd, Minnesota and Jacquelyn and David Kinney of Vinton, Iowa, 4 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother in law, Robert Nelson, her daughter and son in law, Connie and Richard Stewart and her son Harlan Jr. 

Margaret was born December 24, 1923 at Charles City, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Marie Wegner. She graduated high School in Ionia and went on to graduate from Hamilton College of Business in Mason City, Iowa. Margaret’s first job was at Commercial Bank in Charles City. She married Harlan Schmidt on December 10, 1943 in Rochester, Minnesota. They moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Margaret worked for Diamond V Mills for 25 years. She was a member of the American Business Women’s Association being president, Women of the Year and listed in the Top 100 of Whose Who in American Business Women. Margaret was an excellent seamstress. She made her daughter’s wedding and brides maid dresses for their wedding. She enjoyed many kinds of hand needlework. Margaret loved to have guests in her home and all were welcome anytime. 

Mom was a very special and so loved by many. 

The family would like to extend a very loving and heartfelt thank you to Heritage Specialty Care for four years of wonderful care. Mom loved all of you and so enjoyed her “good Morning Song”. A special thanks also to Care Initiatives Hospice for the care given to Margaret in her final weeks. They exemplify God’s work her on earth.
