George Hamman, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Northbrook Manor Care Center in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 PM at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Services will be held on Tuesday at 1:30 PM at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with Certified Celebrant Paula Meyer. Burial will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors provided by the US Navy.
George N. Hamman was born on January 3, 1927 to Otto and Myrtle Kyle Hamman in De Soto, Missouri. He proudly served in the US Navy during WWII, Korean War and Vietnam. He retired after 20 years of service. George was united in marriage to Donna Sherlock on July 28, 1967 in Rock Island, Illinois. Together they formerly owned and operated the “Home Port” for 26 years. George was a member of the Presbyterian Church, VFW 788, Marine Corp League, Hanford Legion #5, Am Vet Post #6, Fleet Reserve Association Branch 216, Moose Lodge, The Elks Club and 40/8.
He is survived by his son, Michael (Jeannette) Hamman; daughter, Pamela Banke; son-in-law, Robert Tumilty; grandchildren, Tracy (Jim) Tumilty-Tow, Todd (Katie) Tumilty, Jessica Hamman, Tricia (Brad) Tumilty-Baker, Katherine (Bragdon Bonamasso) Hamman, Jennifer (Levi) Banke-Nuss, Michael Hamman, Brian Banke (Amber Frey), Christine Hamman, Robert Hamman, Riley Ramirez; great grandchildren, Adam Tow, Nicholas Tow, Audrey Tumilty, Tyler Tumilty, Caden Baker, Jaxon Baker, and Myla Nuss. Also surviving is his sister, Dorothy of St. Louis, MO and loving nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna Hamman (2003); daughter, Diane Tumilty (1995); son, Robert Hamman (2010); and five siblings.
