I am so very, very sad to hear of Dennis's passing. I hadn't seen him since 1985, but from 1976-1985, I saw him almost daily when he would come into Drug Town Marion where I worked to buy cigars and check out the hunting and fishing equipment. I was new to Iowa and he and Phil Long befriended the nerdy drugstore clerk. Dennis taught me a lot about fishing and firearms, and even took me on fishing trips. In picture #17, I am between Phil Long and Dennis with Ken VanMilligan on the end--that picture was taken on our big fishing trip to Green Bay where we chartered a boat for a half day of salmon fishing--we couldn't afford a whole day. We also got to fish Green Bay for brown trout from regular small fishing boats. What a great time! Dennis also took me to the target range and showed me how to shoot. He was passionate about fishing. He knew what was important in life--family, friends, and nature. He was smart, funny, and above all kind and generous to me. I will always treasure the time I spent with him. My most sincere condolences to the family.

I worked with Dennis for 3 years. He was funny , tough hard working guy who would never give in to his aches and pains. We worked hard and laughed a lot and always had never ending supply of funny comments. He loved his family and bragged about them often. He made coming to work fun. Condolences to his family. I will always smile when I think about him.

For many years Dennis cleaned my classroom at Harding. We often would talk about kids, education and what plans we had for the weekend. I appreciated his easy smile and thoughtfulness in helping me, whether it was to open a locked door or to carry a heavy object up a flightof stairs, or to help me clean up after a messy activity. He always had a funny quip when I found him in the custodian breakroom. Rest in peace, Dennis, and thank you for sharing your life with me. Jean Oberbroeckling
