Florence V. Schmitz, age 98, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, June 6, 2014 at Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center.
Mass of the Resurrection: 10:30 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at St. Jude Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Mark Reasoner officiating. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation: 4:00-7:00 PM Monday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Florence’s name may be directed to Care Initiatives Hospice.
Florence was born December 12, 1915 in Brewster, Minnesota to H. Archibald and Anna (Nienaber) Watters. She graduated from high school in Hudson, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Arthur A. Schmitz on November 16, 1940 in Waterloo, Iowa.
She was a homemaker for most of her life. She loved camping and visiting the casino. She also enjoyed playing BINGO at Heritage Center and Linwood.
Florence is survived by six children: son Jerry (Ann) of Arizona; daughters Sally and Karen; son Dennis, all of Cedar Rapids; daughter Phyllis (Lawrence) Koch of Newhall; and son Steven (Rosy) of Medford, Minnesota; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; as well as sister Helen Miller of Waterloo.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996; her parents; sisters Marjorie Reddish and Mary Jane Jasper; and brothers Bud and Calvin Watters.
