When I first moved to Cedar Rapids in 1968 we rented a house from her and Floyd. When we moved from there to Marion I stayed friends. Marie was such a great lady. We could talk about anything, very open minded, was always there for me. I flew to Cedar Rapids to help her celebrate her 100th birthday. What a day that was. I will miss her monthly phone calls and visits when I come to town. I loved that lady, my best friend. I can bet you that my daughter, Manette was there to meet her when she crossed over.

Marie became my second mother. She was my neighbor and as a young newly wed, she became my go to person. Helped me so many times when I was in need of advice. Missed her very much when she moved away.

Marie was such sweet, caring, kindest person; like a mom/grandma to me. Floyd and Marie came into my life when my ex husband, Virgil, started to work at Martin Marietta sand plant in Cedar Rapids. Of course, Floyd worked there also, and the friendships began, and continued until Floyd passed away. However, the friendship between Marie and I went on. My neighbor, Bessie Maxson, worked with Marie at Armstrong's, I would take Bessie to Bishop's where Marie would meet us to enjoy good food, and talk about the good ol' days. I loved going to her house, her beautiful flowers, wonderful talks about anything and everything, and laugh, but wouldn't let you leave until she offered you a treat. I would take my daughter, Stephanie, to visit, and just last year for her birthday, I took my grandchildren, Alexis, and Christian to visit this wonderful lady and celebrate her milestone birthday, took some awesome pictures to treasure. Marie wouldn't say anything bad about anyone, her memory, oh my gosh, remembered every special moment by she would send birthday cards, anniversary cards, Christmas cards, Easter cards; etc. and would write a few lines in them, she would never miss a date!!!!!! She loved her family so much, she would talk of her children and grandchildren and then great grandchildren but would miss them when they lived far away. Marie always had that sparkle in her eye, even last year on her birthday, didn't want to focus on herself that she would always be fine, made some little joke about bones creaking, with a chuckle and change the subject. I cannot say enough good about Marie, I will miss this wonderful lady and what an inspiration she was to me. I loved her dearly. May you rest in peace now my dear, dear friend......

Marie was one of the sweetest, most caring and loving person i knew. I took care of her at Garnett Place before I quit. It's hard to believe she is gone because she was the healthiest 100 year old I knew!! I remember coming in one night while I was off work, because I knew what time she would go to bed and I decorating her door for her 100th birthday! She had no clue I was doing it and I had no clue I could be so quiet :-) She was the only resident I did that for! :-) She was definitely a one of a kind! My thoughts and prayers are with the loving family of Marie!
