Thelma F. Makinster, 93, of the Winslow House Care Center died there on Monday December 24, 2012 after a long illness. Services at 3:00 PM on Saturday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Lieutenant Michael and Lieutenant Kristina Sjogren will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Friday.Survivors include two sons, Frank (Susie) of Marion, and David and his fiancé Gineen of Hadley, Mass. ; two daughters, Cindy (Tom) Dwyer of Loveland, Colorado and Gerrie (Larry) Engle of Ankeny and a sister Myrtle Venenga of Grundy Center. She is also survived by three grandchildren Nicholas Makinster, Jasen Slaman and Libby Dwyer. She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers Roy and Robert Venenga, one sister Esther Kliege and an infant grandchild. Thelma was born on April 22, 1919 in Grundy Center the daughter of Harm and Jenny Muhring Venenga. She married Frank J. Makinster on April 17, 1937 in Waterloo. Frank passed away in 1991. Thelma was a stay at home mom and later worked at Midwest Foods for several years. She was very committed to the work of the Salvation Army where she volunteered and belonged to several sewing clubs there. She enjoyed the time she spent with her friends and family especially her grandchildren.Thelma was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who’s memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her. A memorial fund has been established.
