Avenue of Flags at Cedar Memorial

Memorial Day_Avenue-of-Flags

We are proud to invite you to our Memorial Day Avenue of Flags. More than 1,500 American flags—each donated by veterans' families over the last 70 years—line the avenues from Saturday morning through Monday evening to honor our veterans and all those who serve in the military. This year the flags will be displayed from Saturday morning, May 26 through Monday evening, May 28.

Please join us Monday, May 28 at 11:00 AM for our Memorial Day Tribute. Bring family, friends and neighbors…lawn chairs and blankets…and enjoy patriotic music, rifle volley, taps and a personalized balloon release. Come early to personalize balloons to honor veterans you love, respect, or admire.

In the event of rain, the program will be held in the Chapel of Memories.

Fresh and silk flower arrangements will be available at the The Chapel Flower Shop located next to the Chapel of Memories. You can also visit The Flower Shop at the new location in the chalet building on the corner of First Avenue and Glenbrook Drive SE, just across the street from Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Our Speaker

We are honored to have Jerry Green as our featured speaker. Jerry is a native Hawaiian and was raised as an Air Force dependent. Like his father, he joined the military and entered the U.S. Army. He started his career as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. After serving over 22 years of active duty military service and being deployed to several countries, he settled in Iowa and joined a financial planning practice in Fairfield, Iowa. A few years later he joined State Farm Insurance as a financial services consultant working with agents and clients. He has been a State Farm agent in the Cedar Rapids/Marion area since 2008.

Jerry volunteers with the Quilts of Valor Foundation and serves as an Iowa State Coordinator, responsible for Linn County and the surrounding areas. He has a passion for helping others and recognizing our service members and veterans. He feels it is important to say “Thank You” to those who have given their time and defended the values of this great nation.
