I worked for Joe for many years at Smulekoff’s. He ran perhaps the largest, certainly the most complex department at the store.
It was a difficult job that he did very well. I saw Joe deal with situations that required a firm but delicate touch, assuring he got what was necessary while retaining the relationship with the customer. It was a pleasure to know him.

I was saddened to hear of Joes death. My first job was working for him at Smulekoffs from 1959-1965. He was a kind fine man. I have warm memories of him. He loved his family and his roses.
