Whenever we had a substitute for the day, you always hoped it was "Joe Sub". His wide, bright smile and gentle nature was a welcome sign when entering any classroom at Kennedy. My condolences to the family at the loss of this wonderful man.

I have many fond memories of my years at Jefferson with Joe, especially the two years I spent in the Counseling Office with Joe, Don, and Gloria. He was my mentor as our department chair and was my go-to-guy as I began my career in counseling. We enjoyed talking baseball, bike riding, the map of C.R. (I believe it was his goal to ride on every street of the city), and the news of the day. Joe had a positive impact on countless people. My sympathies to your entire family. Ron Capps

Sylvia and family. Was so sorry to hear about Joe. My condolences to you and your family. I don't think I ever saw Joe that he didn't have a smile on his face. He helped a lot of students, including my sons, and he will be remembered by many. Glad to have called him a friend -a special friend that will not be forgotten.

Sylvia and family, Love always remains eternal with time. It's just the soul that changes. I smile when I think of all the times we shared, the laughs, the conversations, and even when seeing you & Joe @ Barnes n Noble. Your love and dedication to him was apparent. I will miss his smile as he would greet me in the morning and the laughs I was lucky enough to have with you. Thank you for allowing me the honor of caring for Joe through out the years. Clearly by his obituary his character & accomplishments are abundant to the man he was. Please take care of yourself @ this difficult time.

Sylvia and Liz, Joe's presence in the Kennedy Faculty lounge was always a wonderful addition to the day. It was nice to visit him at Manor Care too, though not as much fun. I'm glad I had the pleasure of knowing this fine man.

Joe Sub was a staple in our Kennedy community. His vivacious attitude will be missed. I could always count on him to run a tight ship when I was gone. My thoughts and prayers go to his family.

Sylvia and family, Joe was always upbeat when he was subbing. He was certainly a legend as "Joe Sub" in our building. Both of my daughters certainly enjoyed the days when he was their sub. On behalf of my entire family you have our sympathy and condolences.

Sylvia and family: My sympathy to you on the passing of Joe. I appreciated his dedication to education, his skill and professionalism as a colleague, and his friendship.

Mr. Keeling welcomed me into Cedar Falls High School in 1964 as my Social Studies teacher. He taught me the importance of knowing the story: Vatican 2, Pope John XXIII, John Kennedy, Vietnam Nam, Baseball and more. He is among the giants in my life to shape me as a parish pastor 42 years. I thank God for Mr. Keeling and pray for your consolation amid your grief.

Sylvia and family, Joe was such a wonderful and fun person. His smile always radiated in the exercise class. I'm thankful that I knew him and sad that he is gone. My wishes for comfort and peace to you all. Kris Cameron
