Memorial

Maurice Burton Tone, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, September 24, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, September 28, 2015 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories.  Interment will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.  

Surviving to honor his memory are two sons, Mark (Susan) Tone of Illinois; Shawn Tone of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three grandchildren, Brandon (Nicole) Tone, Austin and Annaleise Tone; and a brother, Jim (Arlene) Tone of Illinois.   He was preceded in death by a parents, wife Lois Tone and a sister, Eugenia.

Maurice was born December 18, 1930 in Grinnell, Iowa to David and Gladys (Clark) Tone.  He proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War.  He married Lois Fabor on June 6, 1953 in Vinton, Iowa.  Maurice was the first person to graduate college in his family.  He attended UNI which at the time was the Iowa State Teacher’s College.  Maurice was a math and science teacher for 15 years at Wilson Junior High.  He also coached basketball and track.  Maurice then became Vice Principal at Taft Middle School for 15 plus years.   He enjoyed working at Hy-Vee for many years after retiring from the Cedar Rapids Schools System.  He was an avid Hawkeye and Cubs fan.   He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Four Oaks Treatment Center in Cedar Rapids.
