Our thoughts and prayers are with the Bredeson family. Coach Bredeson brought tradition to the J-Hawk Baseball program and touched many lives. He will be missed. -Jefferson Baseball Program

To Vern's family and friends. It was my honor to work with Vern as Principal of Jefferson High School. He was a dedicated professional who understood how to help young people grow and develop. We shared a Norwegian heritage which he reminded me of on many occasions. Vern lived through many eras of public education. He was able to adjust and accomodate new ways of doing things. I shared some of his reservations, and we worked together to change some things to a more reasonable approach. I celebrate a good man, a good educator, and a person who was deeply committed to what he did. Many thanks Vern. William C. Jacobson - Jefferson Principal 1970-1990.

Coach Bredeson's family, I had the honor of being a bat boy in the late 60's and then the privilege of playing baseball for Coach Bredeson in the early 70's. He was truly an outstanding coach, and even more so a great mentor and leader. Some of the things I continue to use now as I coach high school athletes were learned from him. I always enjoyed "catching up" with him at different Jefferson events and will always cherish the things I learned from him and the time he spent being my coach, teacher and mentor. Please accept my condolences and know he was a great man that helped shape the lives of so many. Thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Brian Erbe

The Bredeson Family, Please accept my condolences at this time of your family's loss. I knew Coach Bredeson when I was growing up as he was a member of the varsity J-Hawk football staff. He was always well prepared and knew football inside and out. We would later join up again and it was my pleasure when I attended Coe and he was on the Coe College coaching staff. As we both grew older I would slip down to the local Hy-Vee café and talk (mainly listen) with him and others about life's events and what was happening in the world. Coach Bredeson - outstanding man, I am better because I was fortunate enough to be around him. Jim Dostal

To The Bredeson family, My sincere condolences go out to you. I am very saddened to learn of Coach Bredeson's passing. This man was a true inspiration and a wonderful mentor for me during my teen years, as he was for many other youth. Cedar Rapids has lost a kind gentleman that devoted his life to the betterment of children. He will be missed but also remembered by thousands of those he taught, mentored, encouraged, and loved. I was saddened to see that Mr. Bredeson passed away. He was my baseball coach at Jefforson from 1962-'64. He guided our team to the state tournament my Sr. year. I still have great memories of my years under his direction. My love of the game led me to be an umpire for the last 40 years. May God comfort you as you go forward knowing that Mr. Bredeson was loved and highly respected.

We were saddened to learn of Vern's passing. He lived a full and active life, surrounded and supported by a loving and fun family. We are so grateful to have been able to share some great times with the family and let our own family see first-hand how families are supposed to be. Please know you are all in our prayers and thoughts...Linda and Dave
