Bob, I just recently discovered your father's obituary in the paper. You have my sympathy. You were so fortunate to have him part of your family for such a long period of time. What a blessing. I will never enjoy selling a car as much as I did when you purchased the PT cruiser from me. Reminincing about Iowa football on my porch the day of the sale was a real treat. It should have been recorded. With best regards, Stan Podhajsky.

Suzanne, Bob and families, May your heart and soul find peace and comfort. Cherish the memories. I always enjoyed being around your dad, always so kind and just a folksy kind of guy. How nice for him to be again with your mom and Jim in the big sky above. An old friend, Merle

Vern was a man of great faith. He was very unique and blessed with many talents, which he generously shared with others. He was a major ROCK in the German heritage wall of the Scotch Grove area. He was a great family man who endured a most extreme, heart-wrenching suffering in 1961. We shared this throughout the rest of his life. We have lost a dear friend. Our deepest thoughts and prayers are with you Suanne and Oley, Bob and Mary Beth, and your entire family. Love, Mike & Sylvia and family

We were so fortunate to have known and loved Vern. He was the best! Fun, Fun-loving,and funny; Generous; Considerate; a craftsman; a vocalist; a Christian. We will miss him but are better for having known him. Much love to Bob, Suanne, and their families. Rich, Colette, and Sean Murphy

Our sympathy to your family. We always enjoyed visiting with your dad. He lived a full life and enjoyed all his friends. Ben and Sharon

We so enjoyed every visit we had with your amazing father and your mother when she was living. Sorry we can't be at the service but will holding you all in prayer. We hope to see you at the Bray Reunion in July. Sending love and hugs. Maxine and Verne

Suzanne, Bob and allof Vern's loving family, I was so sad to hear of Vern's passing. He was such a wonderful man and so very, talentented. His voice was amazing and I use to love to hear him sing to the Resident's in the Dining Room at CGP. He knew so many of my relatives and brought me up on their history. Veen will be greatly missed by allwho had the chance to know him and for those that didn't get that chance, they really lost out on knowing such an amazing man. God give you strength to get through this time of sorrow. My Deepest Sympathy, Glenna Malone

Dear Suanne & Bob (& families), I've just recently learned that you lost your father--oh, what a long life he lived! But am sure you will miss him greatly. He's part of my 'growing up' memories--all the good times the Balster & Helgens families had long ago....the basketball games that were endlessly rehashed, the late nights at your house when I recall your dad a bit tipsy & singing a lot! May you hold all your wonderful memories of him close to your hearts. With sympathy, Lynn Balster Liontos (in Eugene, Oregon)

Bob, Suzanne and all your families, Much sympathy for your loss. Vernon was an exceptional person and we appreciated his loyalty to Monticello and the school. Know he is with his family that went before. Hugs to you all.

Dearest Bob & Mary Beth & entire family, We extend our sincere sympathy on the passing of your beloved Dad (& Grandpa & Great Grandpa) Vernon. We lift your family and your grieving hearts in prayer to Jesus for comfort & strength during this sad time. What a beautiful man & vibrant soul... We are very blessed that we heard him sing at Christmas :-) With Love, David & Kelli Naylor
