I see Gus's backyard from my upstairs window, the yard he looked out over so many hours. I look to see if he's out on the porch watching the birds. It's hard to believe we won't talk anymore. He always reminded me of Chuck Yeager, my idol. Both visually and personality - wise. Gus did talk about the Navy with me. He brought out a book and showed me pictures of his ship freeing American prisoners-of-war from the Pacific islands in WWII. He had so many stories about everything -I wish I had recorded them. He really was entertaining. Deb and I would sit with Gus and Waiva and it was great fun. Waiva had a great man.

Uncle Gus-you were a great guy. Thank you so much for all your hard work and taking such great care of my aunt. I will surely miss your jokes and that great smile. Thanks for serving our country. You will be missed so much by us in Mason City.

Uncle Gus, you will be missed. Not only were you a good Uncle you were a good friend to both of us. We will never forget all of the times we spent together and especially the great time we had when you gave Penny away during our marriage. You were great for the kind, loving, generous, cheeky, playful, adventurous comments. You were full of laughter, full of fun, and you could get a smile from anyone. Uncle when God gave us gifts he tried to be fair, but when we got you we got more than our share. We love you and even though we will miss you, you are blessed in heaven. Some day we will meet you again!
