To the Entire Weiland Family, Your dad was our family's dentist for my entire childhood. My brothers and I went to see him twice a year. He was so kind and good to us, even when we had a cavity. I never experienced the negativity that some folks do when talking about the dentist. I remember your family fondly from the Town House Pool days and the Regis High School days. Please know you have been in my thoughts and prayers since I learned of Jerry's Alzheimer's journey. I'm so happy he was surrounded by love when he passed, as he sure did give so much of it during his time here. I remember him with a big smile on my face. I'm sad for your loss, but happy in the knowledge that he is "whole" again in heaven. (Along with many other Town House and Regis greats that have gone before him!:) Meg Schueller May Regis '87 friend to Nancy and Liz

When I was a freshman in college in the early 70's, I went to Dr. Weiland and discovered not only a great dentist but a wonderful and compassionate person. I have always admired him and his family. The world is a better place having had Dr. Weiland in it! Please accept my sympathy and prayers.

To the Wieland family. I am not sure you will remember me, but when Jerry was at Milestones I am the one who worked with him in the SCU. I was very sad to see that he has passed. What a WONDERFUL man he was and I am surely going to miss the smile and his great warm spirit. Jerry would always bring me flowers. He was also very concerned about my teeth. I wish I could show him my new teeth in 2 months. He will be missed by many. My prayers and support to your family. Margaret

Dear Betty and Family: We will never forget what wonderful neighbors all of you were during the 20 years we lived next door on Second Avenue. And we certainly always enjoyed seeing Jerry outside gardening. Not only was he our dentist but a great friend. Tyler remembers visiting Jerry and having Liz and Nancy sitting for him. All of us will truly miss Jerry and send our most heartfelt condolences to all of you.

Many wonderful memories growing up with the Weiland kids. Dr Weiland was always a kind and gentle presence for us boys when we came over to play. As a neighborhood kid I loved his funny stories and funny faces! Who can forget seeing Dr Weiland to fill a cavity, and as he bends down, drill in hand, realizing he's coming at you cross-eyed saying "this won't hurt a bit!" I can not say how many times I saw Dr Weiland come jogging by before dawn while I was on my paper route. Even in the middle of winter he'd pass me by, his stocking cap covered in frost from his breath! He will surely be missed. God's blessings on you all.

We remember Dr. Weiland as a kind, gentle dentist. But more than that we remember him as such a nice, caring man, always very welcoming and with a ready smile. He has reached his reward. May God hold him tenderly. And may God bless his family with peace as they remember many happy times.

Betty and family: The entire Greco family went to see Doc Weiland long ago!! He was a great dentist and an amazing husband and father! Since childhood days I have enjoyed the pleasure of meeting and becoming friends with Liz! The apple doesn't fall far from the tree!! I have also had the pleasure of seeing Jerry and Betty at Mass at St. Matts over the years and bumping into them at Zepplins. Always the smile and kind word!! He was so full of life even when he didn't know it! The love of his family and especially his wife was evident! He was a man of integrity (as Leo Greco always said). He will be missed... Love to you all, Lisa and family

On behalf of the Hauschildt family, we extend our sympathy and prayers to the Weiland family on the recent loss of your husband and father, Dr. Weiland. We remember fondly the kindness he extended to us when we first came to the Cedar Rapids area. May our Heavenly Father hold you especially close in the days ahead. God Bless.

Sending our many cherished thoughts from Ariz. wishing we could be with all of you. Betty and Jerry have been part of our strong "circle of friends" for years. We have shared many happy times as well as sad. Please know what an impact and legacy he leaves on all our lives. What a very kind, wise and gentle man. No doubt he was greeted very fondly from the other "Duhawk" Don Kaliban!! They were always so proud of their Loras roots. Sending much Love to each of you and a special "Hug" for dear Betty Lou. What great memories we all have.

Our deepest sympathies to the entire Weiland family. Our two families have been linked together through Dairy Queen and Dentistry since the mid 70's! Dr. Weiland was always a class act who put me, a 7 year old girl at ease as he pulled a record 16 teeth in his office! He would say to me on more than one occasion, " Jill, don't ever let anyone tell you that you have a big mouth! 16 teeth later, it still sticks with me today. He was always a kind and gracious man whom I never dreaded seeing, even for an extraction! Our thoughts and heartfelt smiles remain for you all! Sincerely, Jill Stendel Muckler and our entire family

It was my privilege and great fortune to get a job with Dr. Jerry Weiland many years ago when I graduated from college. I rediscover every day how very lucky I was to work along side this man. He taught me so many things about caring for people...things that will never become outdated or unimportant. It truly has been a life affirming journey to know and be a part of the Weiland Family. May God bless you all.

We are thinking and praying for your entire family. When I read about your dad, Liz, it was like I was reading about you. I see where you get it. Kate and Mia hope that John and Luke are OK, too. Praying for you all.

We are so sorry to here of your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. We will miss running into you two at the ID and Zepplins as it seemed we saw you about every time we went there, to the point it seemed as if we planned it. Jerry always had a friendly smile and will be missed.

Our sympathy to the entire Weiland family. Jerry was such a wonderful man and it shows by his entire family that he leaves behind him. Just cherish the memories of all the wonderful days you had together. Am sure he was welcomed into heaven with open arms. Prayers to all of you while you go through these difficult times.

Dear Betty and family, I was so saddened to learn of the passing of this gentle man. There are so many fond memories of working for him and with him for 10 yrs. He was one of the finest, funniest fellows I knew. Please know that I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless You All. God Bless.

Between myself and my husband Dick we considered you to be one very special person. Dick so loved having you for a dentist those many years and I so loved looking forward to every spring to see what and how you were going to plant your vegetables and flowers at the city garden. I would walk down from my garden to see what new things you had planted and to see how the poppies were during. You will be missed by many. Our prayers and thoughts are with Betty and your family. God bless.

Dr Weiland - a wonderful person and dentist who made going to the dentist a good experience rather than fearful. I and many, many others were blessed by his presence in our lives. My condolences to the family. Your father/spouse had to be a joy in your lives. May he bask in God's love forever. God's peace be with you. Eleanor Rohde

Betty: Tom and I are SO sorry . We wish you all the best.

My family moved to Cedar Rapids in 1964 and lived on 34th St Dr which meant finding a dentist was easy as Dr. Weiland was just down the street. He remained my dentist till he retired and I too remember how big his smile was upon seeing you come into the office. I got to watch the pictures grow and change of his family over the years and thought what an amazing man. May your memories keep him close to you. Nancy Davis

Heaven just received another angel.. All my love and prayers go out to this beautiful family. Jerry was such a special soul..and even though i didnt get the honor of knowing him for very long before he got sick, his light shined bright and he was an incredible man. I have never seen a love like Betty and Jerry's before.Ive been waiting on them at their favorite restaurant for almost 5 years now and they have become "family" to myself and the rest of the staff. Even as Jerry got sicker, he never ever forgot who his wife was, and always pulled out the chair for her to sit down before he sat himself. I remember telling them both how touched i was that after all these years he still was so chivalrous!!! What a beautiful love!! Jerry just smiled at me and said "And she's a really good kisser"!!! A love like Betty and Jerry's is a rare and beautiful gift and i feel so honored to have witnessed it!! Jerry will be greatly missed..i dont know many people in this world with hearts and souls as pure and kind as he had. Sending sooo much love out to Betty and family..my heart has been heavy since i heard the news

Heaven received an angel! Prayers are with you all. Always loved talking to your parents at church. So cute those two, such love. Raised some pretty great kids too! Hope memories can get you thru these difficult times!

We shall miss him very much but remember all the wonderful times that we laughed and share with him and Betty. He also was my very best dentist! Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the Weilands.

Love, hugs, and prayers to you all!

Dr. Weiland was our family dentist from 1970 until he retired. He helped save my 2yr.old daughters front teeth when she fell and cracked them. He was so gentle. Then it was my turn, as I am a " white knuckle " patient , he was so gentle with me....but his comment was" your daughter is a better patient then you are!" From then on I "tried" to relax. Many years after he retired, we saw him out at supper. I reintroduced myself and he said..." I don't remember you, but if you show me your teeth, I just might!!" God Bless him, and prayers of comfort and peace to all of his family. Al and Dana Liston

Doctor Weiland was always "Doc Weiland" to me. A very nice man and a very funny guy. Our families aligned with each other as we both had the eight kids. I was fortunate to have known the entire Weiland family since high school. Betty and family, thank you for being the wonderful bunch that you are and anyone that ever met Doc was better for it. Our condolences. The Kenney's

Jerry made an impact on everyone he met. I remember at a very young age how he made all of us feel special. I also appreciate the fact that his daughter Nancy was always so kind to me which was a reflection of him and their entire family. He will be missed but will always be in our hearts. Thinking of you all.....

Dr. Weiland took care of my three daughters until he retired. My oldest needed some dental work at a very young age. I had a big problem with a dentist here in town and asked Dr. Weiland if I could go back in the room with my daughters, he said "of course". When we got back to the room, he told me to stand in the corner. (One of his many jokes) He never had a problem with me going back until the girls decided they didn't need me back there anymore. I have always been so grateful for his concern with a Mothers love. He knew you in his office and if he seen you outside of the office, he still knew you. How personal! His smile and personality will be greatly missed. The lord will be with his family. He made sure of that.......

My thoughts and prayers to you all. I too, was a patient through out my childhood as well as my parents, brothers and sisters. My Dad Bob delivered mail for many years to your home on 2nd avenue. Great memories of the family as us kids shared high school fun. He'll be missed on earth, but welcomed by our Lord. Debi Moen

Well Jerry… I guess that it was time to park the VW Microbus, hang up the running shoes and put away the gardening hoe. By now you have heard it said to you, “Enter into the joy of your Master.” Matthew 25.21 May God be with Betty, the kids and the rest of your extended family. Tom Kudart

I was one of Dr. Weiland's dental patients for his entire career. He was very nice and caring towards myself and my parents during his entire career. Last year, I was at my eye doctor's office and Jerry happened to be there, too. It was great seeing him again after his retirement. And of course he had to take another look at my teeth while I was there, and I dutifully complied. LOL - 'let's see what you have....' he said, and I opened up wide without hesitation. He will be missed. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to his family.

It was privilege to have known Jerry. He was a kind, caring and humble man. He always found beauty around him no matter where he was at. He was also very funny! He introduced my kids, Matthew & Sarah, to the "The Lake Michigan Sea Monster" which they thought was the funniest thing ever!. I will always treasure the wonderful memories I have some really great times shared with Jerry - lots of laughs, lots of hugs & kisses, lots of love given and a few tears along the way....We shared great martinis & meals at "Til Midnight" restaurant, cold "Red Stripes" at the Red Dock, and many fine glasses of wine. The best memories are those that were made around the dining room table at 1832 2nd Avenue. So many great times shared there! I loved this man so very much and I am VERY BLESSED to have known him and to have been a part of his life. Rest in peace my dear friend! With much love Meg

What a wonderful tribute to your Dad and loved one!! You also encouraged all of us to be thoughtful to our loved ones! No wonder Nancy is the thoughtful person that she is! She is such a great friend to our daughter, Leslie. Our thoughts and prayers are with you!

Our prayers go out to Jerry's family. When we arrived in Norway, IA right out of college, we ask a friend for a referral to a dentist. So it was that our family came under the care of Dr. Weiland. We drove clear cross town as he moved his office further east and he was our dentist until retirement. RIP Dr. Weiland.

We have nothing but admiration and love for the Weiland Family. Watching this beautiful family over the years and being part of their life has been a great honor. Our children have gone to school together and have fond memories of this tremendous family . We are saddened for your loss but picturing Jerry running into Heaven and into GODS loving arms brings a smile to our face. He used God's talents to the fullest and his legacy continues throughout his children and lovely wife Betty. Sending prayers and hugs to an amazing family who shared an amazing life with an amazing man. Gene and Sally Kopecky

Your family is in my prayers. May the Peace of the Lord be in your Heart, Mind and Soul.

A walking stick, a big stride and friendly hello...Jerry walked past St. Peter and the Gates of Heaven to eternal life. He leaves a trail of family, friends and people he served as legacy of his time with us. Godspeed and God Bless. Our deepest sympathies and condolences to the extended family and friends.

Thinking of all of you, will keep you in our prayers. Kelly, Val & Daniel
