On Thursday, October 16, 2014, after a 10 year battle with cancer, Dennis Fenton (63) is now at rest. Born to Jeanne & (O.F.) Fred Fenton in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Dennis graduated from Burlington High School, and Southeastern Community College and attended Northeast Missouri State College, where he was a member to the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. Dennis was in the Material Handling business for the past 39 years. For the past 8 years, he was the Eastern Iowa Territory Manager for Industrial Battery Service of Iowa and was previously with Iowa Battery and Big River Equipment.

On October 19, 1974, Dennis married Karen Porter in Burlington, Iowa. Together they enjoyed raising their daughters Jennifer and Jessica in Cedar Rapids. Dennis was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, where he was an usher for many years. Dennis was an avid reader, and enjoyed golf and fishing. He was especially pleased that he was able to take his granddaughter Hayley, to Uncle Scott’s pond to fish. Dennis enjoyed traveling and especially trips to Wisconsin.

Dennis is survived by his loving wife Karen, daughters Jennifer Simonton and son-in-law Bryce of Waukee; Jessica French and son-in-law Ryan of Des Moines; granddaughter Hayley Simonton; his mother Jeanne Fenton of Burlington; brothers Ted (Julie) of Burlington and Stuart (Linda) of Bartlesville, OK.; sisters and brother-in-laws Sue & Bill Bauer; Scott & Jeri Porter; Debbie & Steve Cain; nieces and nephews and many good friends. Dennis was preceded in death by his infant brother Larry, his father Fred Fenton and his in-laws, Glen & Delores Porter.

The family would like to thank Dennis and Karen’s employers, IBS and Berthel Fisher & Company for their support and understanding. The family would also like to thank Dr. Nabi and staff at the Hall Perrine Cancer Center and St. Luke’s Hospital Emergency Room for their loving care of Dennis.

Memorial services for Dennis will be at 11:00 AM on Monday St. Paul United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids, IA. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel on Sunday from 2 to 4 PM. 

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial be given to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Jimmy V Cancer Foundation, or the Wounded Warrior Transitional Battalion, Fort Carson Colorado, Colorado Springs, CO.
