Delmer D. Mehlert, 77, of Hiawatha (formerly of Belle Plaine) passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday October 23, 2014 at his home. Delmer was a member of Noelridge Christian Church. Services: 1:00 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, 1221 First Avenue SW, where a visitation will be on Sunday form 2-5 p.m. Inurnment: Private at Oak Hill Cemetery in Belle Plaine.
Delmer was born December 14, 1936 to John & Wilma (Scheel) Mehlert in Keystone, Iowa. Delmer graduated from Keystone High School in 1955 and served in the Army from 1955-1958. He was united in marriage to Judith K. Bushnell on January 31, 1960 and is survived by his wife Judy, children; Susan Tharp of Mt. Auburn, Steven (Jennifer) Mehlert of Belle Plaine, Grandchildren; Cory Tharp of Waterloo, Cody (Lucas) Lunby of Maynard, Ia and Morgan Mehlert (Fiancé Katie Walton) of Cedar Rapids, great grandchildren; Isabella and Addelise Tharp.
Delmar loved people and his life was filled with serving others and he loved working at Keystone Place in Cedar Rapids and helping his wife with her music. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister at birth.
Instead of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
