From all of us at St. Luke's Volunteer Services, we would like to extend our sympathies to the family and friends of Gordon. We are so grateful for his donation of time (1,055) hours and talents to the Festival of Trees for many years.

From the entire Skyhawk R.C. Club. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Gordon's family, he will be missed. Skyhawk secretary, James L. Buttleman

Gordon was one of the first Iowa Electric Engineers that I met when joining the company back in 1975. Gordon impressed me the most with his ability to understand a problem and help you to solve it. I will always remember his oiler that he had on his desk and how proud he was of it and its history. Gordon may you rest in peace. My sincerest condolences to the Cook family.

I am sorry to hear about Gordon's death. I knew Gordon when he was a member of the Cedar Rapids Skyhawks radio control model airplane club. He was a regular attendee at our meetings. He frequently volunteered when we needed help for our special events. His organizational skills were invaluable when he registered pilots and managed our transmitter impound area. The Skyhawks extend their prayers and condolences to the family.

My condolences to the family of Gordon Cook. I worked with Gordon in conjunction with the Festival of Trees. He was the life saver of the group. Anything we needed he could supply. He was the most genuine, kind, and sincere person. He will be greatly missed by all who had the opportunity to have known him. Again, so sorry for your loss... Peggy Chute

Having worked around and with Gordon at Iowa Electric from 1966 until his retirement, I can report that he was always a respected engineer and patient person. Gordon was one of the engineers who originally interviewed me. He was very supportive to my work in the field office and planning after my moving to Cedar Rapids. The patience was also well tested later when he was providing me with daily transportation to and from the office. His advice was treasured by all of us who had the opportunity to hear it. His stories of 'the old days' remain fascinating; some about work and some about the Canadian fishing trips. In addition to his transmission line efforts, he made a huge contribution to the successful completion of the Duane Arnold Energy Center. His overseeing the quality assurance aspects were very critical in the plant's coming on line on schedule with a good operating record. A great person to have had the privilege of knowing.

I am so sorry to hear of Gordon's passing. I mainly remember him as the Skyhawks Radio Control club member who was always there to sign up pilots and man the transmitter impound at our flying events. I will always think of him on those occasions.

Our thoughts and prayers are with your family during this time. I was blessed to work with Gordon during the last few years before he retired. He was always kind and patient with us "newbies" to the engineering department here at Iowa Electric. And there sure were a lot of us newbies back then, lots of co-op engineers and such. We had many questions yet he always gave us a smile and took extra time to teach us what we needed to learn. And he knew it all!!! My favorite memory of your Dad (and Brother) was seeing him carry around heavy buckets in the office, filled with rhubarb plants. A bit unusual to see that here in the tower on 10th floor. He was taking the extra effort to be kind enough to share starter plants to those of us "younger families" just beginning our gardens. My family enjoyed many years of rhubarb thanks to Gordon so I still always think happy thoughts of Gordon whenever picking rhubarb!!! Gordon always went above and beyond for those around him - a pretty special guy!!!!

Gordon was the leader of our engineering department at Iowa Electric when I started in 1986. He was a true leader and provided over the next five years great guidance to us. One time he went out to Manchester to assist me with a design problem I had. He had a sports cap on and I was pretty worked up over the problem. . I will never forget how easy the solution came for him and how he delivered it to me to ease my stress. He truly loved teaching. Later in 2002 I was presenting to IEEE committee and he was in the audience. I was getting some questions that were not part of my presentation and he began asking questions that were more consistent with what I was talking about. I made eye contact and I knew he t still wanted to continue helping me. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. He always represented what was good in our professions and I will continue to have fond memories of him.!!

Brad, I am so sorry to hear about your father. My prayers and condolences are with you and your family.
