Mark Anthony Van Slyke, age 41, of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, died Monday, July 14, 2014 at the University of Iowa Hospital after an accident.
Mark was born June 27, 1973 to Edward and Colleen (Potter) Van Slyke in Cedar Rapids. He worked as a carpenter and sider for most of his life, and was most recently employed by Red Roof Siders in Iowa City.
He loved camping and spending time with his kids. He was a loving son, brother, and father who will be dearly missed, and a beloved friend to many.
He is survived by his four children: Nathan Merrifield of Central City; Mercedes, Allison, and Anthony Van Slyke, all of Cedar Rapids; his parents Edward and Colleen Van Slyke of Mt. Vernon; sister Pam (Brett) Cavanaugh of Piedmont, Oklahoma; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins that will miss him very much.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Please join the family for a visitation at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5:00 until 8:00 PM Friday, July 18, 2014. A celebration of Mark’s life will be held at Bertram Hall at 1:00 PM Saturday afternoon.
