Marie Catherine Hurt, age 89, of Cedar Rapids, IA, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at Meadowview Memory Care in Cedar Rapids.
She was born July 26, 1934, in Richland Township, IA, the daughter of Clair and Mary (Opitz) Collins. Marie graduated from high school and worked as a bookkeeper and a receptionist. Then in 1967, she worked in the Customer Service Division in the City Water Department for 18 years and then became the office supervisor for the next 14 years. Marie spent numerous years volunteering at Mercy Hospital Gift Shop. She loved horses, especially her childhood pony, Tony and the Budweiser Clydesdales. She enjoyed collecting pig figurines, listening to Leo Greco every Sunday morning, flowers and making crafts and cheering for the Cubs. In 1995, Marie married Glen Hurt.
Survivors include her husband, the love of her life, Glen Hurt and his beloved family; two daughters, Roxi Cole and Barb Wilhelm; three grandchildren, Nicole Minor, Josh and Cortney Cole; five great-grandchildren, Spencer, Tyler and Laci Minor, Mila Roseberry and Amira Cole; two sisters, Shirley Mangold and Sandi (Mike) Franks and numerous nieces and nephews. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Deb Wilhelm; infant brother, Robert John and her brother, Chuck Collins.
A Rosary Service for Marie will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at 10:00 am with a time for visitation following until 1:00 pm all at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. Interment will follow at Strawberry Point Cemetery in Strawberry Point, IA.
Any memorials given will be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital by the family.
