Jerry J. Stych, 88, of Cedar Rapids died Wednesday October 11, 2017 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Services at 10:30 AM on Monday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 4 PM on Sunday.

Survivors include three daughters, Sheryl Stych-Karr of Gilbert, Arizona, Linda (Donald) Olson of South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Kathleen Detert of Coralville; and one brother Godfrey of Michigan. He is also survived by three grandchildren Darren, Neal, George and three great greadchildfen Zachary, Raven and Brooklin.

Jerry was born on August 1, 1929 in Cedar Rapids the son of Bohumil and Helen (Navratil) Stych. Jerry worked at Cherry-Burrell and retired from there after more than 45 years. During his working career he was the Chairman of the Bargaining Committee for local 1024 of the UAW as well as their chief steward for over 20 years. After retirement he was a board member of UAW Region 4 Board, Chairman of local 1024 Retires, Western Fraternal, and the Elks Club.

Jerry enjoyed music and played both the accordion and harmonica. He will forever be remembered as a wonderful father, grandfather, and friend whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

A memorial fund has been established in Jerry’s name.
