Sarah and family, my deepest condolences to you and the family. My visits with Leo strengthened my desire to become and architect, his vision of the profession and his strong sense of design assured me I was on the right track even as a college student, now after 30 years of practice I still hold his words close when I am faced with a challenge in a project, and as a fellow ISU Phi Psi, I wish my brother Rest In Peace . So sorry to hear last week when I was in CR visiting my father about Leo's journey to heaven in January. I enjoyed getting to know Leo at the dining table and smile when I remember how surprised he was when my son JJ showed him an ipad and all the things it could do. He giggled abut that funny little box often that week.

Mary, Mark, Sara and family--- So very sorry to hear of your loss of Leo. Leo always had a smile and encouraging word. What a life of great accomplishments! Hold those good memories close to your heart! God bless ...Carol Olson

Leo has been a good friend from our Boy Scout days at Troop 6 at the First Congregational church, at Camp Waubeek and at Franklin. He was a Phi Kappa Psi at Iowa State when I was one at Iowa. His father and mother were also special family friends.

Mary, Mark & Sara Joanie & I send our condolences to all of you. As you know your Dad was a very close friend and fellow Pyrotechnic. He and our family, our shoot team and sometimes we needed your family to put on Fireworks shows at ever event in Cedar Rapids and surrounding community's. When everyone else was packing up for a great Holiday Weekend. Your Dad, Joanie, myself & our shoot team was setting up shows like Elmcrest Country Club or a three day event like Taste of Cedar Rapids. We had so much fun doing those shows because they were big shows and we knew how to set the tempo and the speed of a big show to make the audience realize they had just seen the best Fireworks show of their life. Mary, we loved your dad. We had a wonderful 32 year partnership with him and we will never forget him. I posted a picture in the photo section. Its not a close-up but you'll know its him. He's standing in the middle of a Fireworks show behind the scoreboard at the new Kernels Ball Park. Love from Joanie & Roger Opfer

My condolences to Leo family such a kind man I meet years ago as I worked downtown. He was always up for a good lunch and conversation.

Sorry for your loss, but Leo left a number of pleasant memories for most that knew him. Our memories will last forever. God Bless

Dear Mary & family, I use to help take care of Leo when he was still in his home. I really enjoyed my time with him, whether it was going to church together at All Saints or driving around town so he could show me the buildings he designed and listening to him tell me about them. I once took him to the Groto at Mt Mercy College. He loved it of course. We sat & talked about many things. I genuinely enjoyed his company. My sincere condolences to you & your family. Mary Nelson

Mary, Mark, Sara and family, Our heartfelt condolences on Leo's passing. He has a marvelous legacy in you and his many creations. Steve & Megan, and Herman Ginsberg
