Jon Scott Kortemeyer, 48, of Iowa City, passed away Monday, September 26, 2016, surrounded by his loving family, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. Funeral Service: 11:00 am Friday, September 30, 2016 at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. A visitation will be held from 5-7 pm Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom. Burial: 2:00 pm Friday at Oakwood Cemetery in Monticello.

Scott was born March 4, 1968, the son of John W. Kortemeyer Jr. and Darlene (Yocom) Kortemeyer Tammel and was raised in Scotch Grove, IA. He graduated from Monticello Community High School in 1987. Later, Scott studied at the University of Iowa and Maharishi University in Fairfield, IA. He lived and worked in Mt. Vernon and Dallas, TX. Most recently, he enjoyed helping others as a support staff member for the Community Mental Health Center of Mid-Eastern Iowa in Iowa City. 

Scott’s daily mantra was, “Love and Peace”. He was generous in spirit and demonstrated great compassion for those in difficult life situations. Scott appreciated growing through reading books, listening to music, watching movies, and exchanging ideas with others. He was most proud of his membership in the Mensa Organization. 

Survivors include his mother, Darlene Kortememyer Tammel and step-father, David Tammel; sister Michelle (David) Reid; nephew, Carson Reid; aunts and uncles, Debra and Leon Gronowski, Craig and Julie Yocom, Michael and Susette Kortemeyer, Roberta and Harvie Fleming, Vickie and Charlie Aten, Ramona Shoemaker; and longtime supportive friends, Stan Miller and Georgia Seitz. 

He was preceded in death by his father, John W. Kortemeyer Jr. and grandparents.
