Daxton was born on May 1st, 2016 and from his first moment on this earth until his last breath, he put up the strongest fight to overcome his hypoplastic left heart syndrome.

Daxton is survived by his mother, Abigail Fitzpatrick; sister, Aniela Montgomery; father, Darnell Montgomery; half siblings; one niece; maternal grandmother, Debra Carney; aunt, Elizabeth Bush; cousin, Adam "A.J" Miller; cousin, Olivia Bush; aunt, Katie Fitzpatrick; cousin, Alexis Fleetwood; cousin, Aiden Fleetwood; grandfather, Timothy Fitzpatrick; great-grandmother, Joan Fitzpatrick; paternal aunt, Stephanie Finley and family; uncle, Andre Montgomery; uncle, Eion Finley; uncle, Tyson Finley; grandfather, Jeffery Montgomery; and a multitude of great aunts, great uncles and cousins.

Daxton was preceded by his maternal great-grandfather, Norbert Breitbach; great-grandmother, Norma "Jean" Breitbach; great-uncle, Neil Breitbach; great-uncle, Robert Blum (his name sake); great-grandfather, Thomas Fitzpatrick; and paternal grandmother, Theola Phillips.

In the short time we were blessed with Daxton's presence he could melt your heart with just one smile. He had this quiet eye contact that communicated so much love and trust. Daxton enjoyed rocking in his mother's arms for hours upon hours, day after day. He enjoyed listening to music and he loved being spoken to while he just quietly studied your face, like he understood deeply everything you were speaking to him. He was so much like his mother with his calm, quiet presence that made you feel instantly at ease. He also exuded his mother's strength as he overcame so many of the obstacles he faced in his short time.

Daxton has left forever footprints on our hearts and he will always be remembered and treasured for the true blessing that he brought upon our lives.

Our family would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to the PICU, cardiology and surgical physicians and staff, as well as, Palliative and Pastoral care at the University of Iowa Children's hospital for their loving care. They treated Daxton as if he was one of their own and helped us more than they will ever know. You are all angels in your own way.

Memorials may be directed to the family in Daxton’s memory.
