Jane Rae Pooley, 86, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, January 25, 2016.

Jane was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa on October 10, 1929, the only child of Hobart and Wilma Johnson.  She grew up in Oskaloosa, Iowa and often spent summers with her Grandmother and Grandfather Johnson on their farm near Madrid, Iowa.
Jane graduated from Oskaloosa High School.  She was life-long friends with nine women from Oskaloosa who called themselves “GOOFs”, which stands for “Good Old Oskaloosa Friends”.  The Nine friends grew up together and met every other year up until just a few years ago.  At each gathering, no matter what their ages, they were “Back In High School” giggling, reminiscing and reminding each other of their teen-age antics and boyfriends.   The women thought of themselves as sisters.  The “GOOFs” considered Jane one of the lucky ones with her winning personality, enviable good looks, and not least because she landed her precious Vernon H. Pooley whom she dated throughout high school and college.

Jane initially attended William Woods College in Fulton, Missouri but soon transferred in order to join Vern at Simpson College.  She was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority and active as a Pi Phi alumna throughout her adult life.

Jane and Vern were married on September 2, 1951 and resided in Cedar Rapids for most of their married life with their two daughters and three sons.  Since 1968 Jane was a PEO member of Chapter JT.  She was a member at Christ Episcopal Church where she also volunteered with Brother Lawrence.

Jane is survived by her five children; Curt (Barb) Pooley of Solon, IA, Lynn (Basil) Hadjis of Cedar Rapids, Mark (Laurie) Pooley of Cedar Rapids, Marcia (Richard) Morgan of Ocala, FL and James (Rhonda) Pooley of Indianola, IA.  Jane was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vernon, and grandson Andy.

The Pooley children are very grateful for the unending care and love our mother gave for each of us.  Her focus was always on family,  God and her church,  and all of her dear friends.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday February 2, 2016 at Christ Episcopal Church.  There is a Visitation on Monday February 1, 2016 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.  Burial is Private at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Christ Episcopal Church.
