Beula B. Thompson, 90, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at the Meadowview Memory Care Village, Cedar Rapids.

A funeral service celebrating Beula’s life will be held at 11:00 am Friday, October 2, 2015 at First Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids with the Rev. Steven Knudson officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel.

Survivors include her daughter, DeAnn Schriner of Cedar Rapids; sons, Bill (Connie) Thompson of Westgate, IA, Doug (Patty) Thompson of Glenwood, IA and Gary (Diane) Thompson of Cedar Rapids; daughter-in-law, Brooke Thompson of Bainbridge Island, WA; also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband DeLoye Thompson in 2009, and son Thomas Thompson, grandson Nathan Eric Thompson, great grandson Davis Eric Thompson, five brothers and four sisters.

Beula Blanche Coombs was born September 25, 1925 in Brighton, Iowa the daughter of Frank and Vina (Duden) Coombs. She graduated from Franklin High School in 1943 and continued her education at St. Luke’s School of Nursing from 1943-1945. On June 12, 1945, she married DeLoye Thompson in Iowa City, IA. She then attended Kirkwood Community College, graduated from Mount Mercy College and earned her Master’s from the University of Iowa in 1985. She worked at Kirkwood Community College in the Special Support Services from 1978 until retiring in 1997. Beula was a life-long very active member of First Lutheran Church where she especially enjoyed the Comfort Maker’s Quilting group. She will be remembered as a loving mother who enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, reading, baking, traveling and sewing. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her.
